Don't you just hate it when you can't fall asleep?

You lay there, watch the clock turn over, think about how in just a couple of hours you have to go to work, and lay there some more and get frustrated and FINALLY, you fall asleep! And then the alarm goes off and you think, "Already? I just got to sleep!" I hate when that happens!

I have a bladder problem, so my night is spent in taking 1-2 hour naps, waking up and going to the bathroom, going back to sleep for another 1-2 hour nap, waking up to go to the bathroom over and over. I consider myself lucky if I sleep for 2 hours instead of just 1 at a time. So, if I can accumulate 7-8 hours total time, I think it is a good nights sleep!

Have you had this bladder problem looked at to see if they can correct it so that you can sleep better at night? That has to be terrible to have to keep waking up like that during the night. You need to be able to get at least 5 or 6 straight hours of sleep if not eight. Hope you can sleep better soon.

I had an appointment with a specialist, and then had to cancel it because my husbands insurance was being switched from one company to another and then I got scared a little and never made the appointment again. I tend to get nervous in new situations.

That almost never happens to me, but when I feel that it is happening, I leave the bedroom, have a cup of warm cocoa, get some covers, turn on the weather channel on TV and sleep in the recliner. The cats curl up on me and hold me down until I sleep. I will not stay in bed if I can't sleep, it seems to make my body sore. When my sister was ill and lived with me we developed a theory that "cats bring naps". Hope you are sleeping well friend.

Yes, there is something to be said for a snuggle next to a kitty in the bed. They can warm you and their purring is comforting. Hot cocoa sounds great! And I can always fall asleep in front of the tv when I'm tired!

I do too. It is the worst. If I know that is going to happen I get up real quick and take something that is over the counter sleep aid. I refuse to have that happen to me again. So try it

sleeping - rest is what we need to function at our best. our bodies need to repair and restore and the brain needs the balance of working out things as we sleep and the REM stage
What you need is a physical hobby, that way you can tire yourself out and then you will have no problem going to sleep. If you keep a constant bedtime in time your body will adjust and begin to prepare for rest. We do need our rest so that our bodies stay in better shape!!

LOL -- welcome to my world. I've dealt with insomnia on and off since highschool. If I get four hours a night, I'm doing well!

Last nite was one of those. I must have layed awake for 3 hours before falling into a crazy dream sleep. I woke up on the hour each hour all night. Now I am tired but it is too early to go to bed. Hopefully I will be able to fall asleep tonight.

It's so horrible isn't it? You need a nice mug of hot milk with is it cinnomen in it or horlicks, that makes me feel snuggly, dim lights a good book and a hot water bottle. I hope you are sleeping better now!

Oh yes that truly is a nightmare. I think we all have these nights once in awhile. I think alot of it has to do with no shutting our brain off. We lay there a wonder about things and whats going to happen to certain people. I really does no good and finally we get so tired of this thinking and we fall asleep. sweet dreams

Usually it happens to me when I am either worried about something that I cannot do anything about it or about a job that I have not finished yet. Or when I have stayed up working long and took an extra doze of caffeine :)

Yes, I really dislike it when I get "the big eye" and can not fall asleep. Usually I can not sleep because I start thinking about the bills and the problems of life. When that happens I get a book and read. Reading is a good way to relax and to go to sleep.

Ugh that has been my life lately , I am so tired from not sleeping at night . No matter what I try it doesn't seem to help . My husband keeps saying if I would just go to bed earlier this will help but when I do , I just lay there longer and end up with a headache from not falling asleep . I work til one in the morn and don't get home til close to two and this is not helping either .

My situation is a little unique. I have bladder problems that wake me every 2 hours, if I'm lucky and every hour if I'm not so lucky. So, I'm learning to take naps during the night. Some nights it seems as if I'm getting my daily exercise going to the bathroom, but I'm getting used to it now. I just don't always feel rested. Good luck to you. It is the worst feeling getting up tired or being frustrated not being able to sleep.

This is such a regular with me that I see very little point in going to bed early. I have often laid awake and finally got so bored that I have got up again and spent an hour on the internet. As you say, the worst thing is that in the morning you can happily stay in bed and go back to sleep.

This happens to me every time I have to take my fiance to the airport the next morning at 4 am. He travels for a living. I've started taking 1/4 of a valium which helps me sleep and doesn't linger when I do wake up and have to drive home from the airport (he drives us there).

Oh I hate when that happens. You toss and turn, maybe fall asleep for five minutes but you keep looking at the clock and knowing you need to get some sleep and you can't. It's worse when you do finally fall asleep and not ten minutes later the alarm goes off. You are ready to throw it across the room and just crawl back in to bed. I know I do. I just want to tell the world to go away and leave me alone. I want to sleep.

I really do hate it when I can't fall asleep. This thing always happen to me when I have an important thing to do or go to the next day in the morning I think it is because of excitement because when we are expecting the next day to be normal we're not thinking about what's gonna happen whereas if tomorrow gonna be different, a lot of disturbance come onto our mind. When we already fall asleep we only have few hours left so we're feeling sleepy and groggy the next day.

I try three things when I am not getting down to sleep: 1. Firstly I take deep breaths. These are not taken hurriedly but in a slow fashion. 2. I try to do 'Brahmri' a yogic exercise where in you close both of your ears with your thumbs and place fingers of both of your hands over your eyes and forehead and side of your nose. Then slowly I expel air through my nostrils to generate quite sound. This relieves me of tension and any headaches beacause of ill sleeping. I would suggest you search for this technique from a Yoga expert. 3. Finally and the easiest of them all: I keep something over my chest (like a pillow)! This really helps in going of to sleep!! I don't enjoy long sleeping hours and usually take 7 hours sleep with little afternoon sleep.
