Should parental consent be required for minors to have an abortion?

Much the same as minors can not enter into contracts without parental consent, nor can they recieve doctors treatment, in most states, (urgent care not included) without a parental consent, I do believe that parental consent should be used in this case. While I make my views on abortion very public, much of my interest in parental concent actually stems from the protection of that minors life. At least with parental concent, it will stem the tide of "backyard" "back alley" abortions that occur. Yes, these will still occur, but it will also require an adult to certify that an abortion is going to be performed by a doctor and that parent will have to waive liability. This all being said, however, I reserve the right to change my mind and to add to my comments here.

NO, no, no. Parental consent for minors to have abortions will put many individuals in danger. Ideally, minors would tell their parents if such a situation arose but I don't think the government should force notification. 70% of pregnant teens tell their parents. The other 30% most often are teens who would have their lives in danger because of their parents' strictness or beliefs if they were to find out. These other teens don't tell their parents because they know that there is nothing that will ever change their parents' minds. There are so many documented cases of teens being beaten and other things by parents who will not accept their child becoming pregnant. Also, parental notification will encourage minors NOT to have an abortion and instead they will hide the fact that they are pregnant and will birth child privately and smother it so it will die. Bottom line, parental consent is bad news for both minors and the baby that is born.

I would be devastated and enraged if someone performed an abortion on my my minor child without my consent. I also feel very strongly that a parent's number one priority is to make sure their child knows the meaning of unconditional love. Perhaps that is what is really lacking.

YES! This is a very dangerous procedure and I think and a parent should have to give permission to a doctor to do any kind of procedure on their child. This is a procedure that can leave many side effects, one being to NEVER beable to have children again.

Tough question. But, yes, as long as they are a minor and living at home, it is something that parents need to consent.

Yes, parential consent should be sort for minors to have abortions. The minors may not be in the right frame of mind to decide given that she may not be matured enough to make decision such as this.

Of course they should need parental consent! They need parental consent for EVERYTHING else, so why wouldn't they need it for abortion? Every other medical procedure requires parental consent for a REASON! There should absolutely be permission required. If you can't get a tattoo, then why should you have a potentially dangerous operation?

Ugh i think t that stuff is looney, if you cant bare to have a child then use birth pills, im disguisted by anyone who does abortion.
