My son gets the same thing. It is a skin condition that normally doesn't present itself until teenage years. It can be cause by anything - heat, cold, etc - and doesn't always appear for the same reason. It is not contgaious and all you can do is give him an antihistamine - like Bendryl. Does your son get the welts as well? I wish I could remember the exact name of the disease, it is a long word and really hard to say. I am going to dig out his medical file and look up the name of the disease. It took my son having this after his 12 month odl, 18 month old and then being a bit stressed out after a move for us to find out what it is. The only reason we know what it is, is because I took him to a Pediatrician that had other patients with the same disease. What caused my sons to originally appear was his 12 month old shots. I thought it was chicken pox but the military Dr's push it off as an alleric reaction to laundry detergent. Good news is that it looks worse than it really is.

What my son gets is a combination of Dermatographia (welts that appears from just touching the skin) and a rash (looks really bad, but not ichy). I am still looking for the name of exact rash he gets.

Similiar to what my son gets. What helps him is Cocoa Butter lotion. Honestly, finding out what your exactly has has a lot to do with finding the right docotr. If my ex-husband had never gotten out of themilitary and we had started seening a civilian doctor that specialized in my sons age range who happened to have other patients with the same thing (from what I understand it is rare), we would still not have a name for what he has. Thankfully, my son has not had an outbreak in a few years, but I know it can come back at any time. I feel bad for him because he looks diseased when he has an outbreak.

yes it looks really bad...it looks like he has bad burns all over him....then sometimes the red areas have lumps...like a mesquito bite...his feet itch...behind his ears...he was bit by several ants one time and had a reaction so bad his face swelled up and he had to go to the hospital... so now anytime he gets any rash or starts itching i panic...i think he just had a reaction to the ants cause there were so many cause he has been bitten by one or two since then and he had no problem...

It sounds like hives. Is your son stressed out about something?

I'd say it's an allergic reaction to something...have himm tested by the doctor..they can do what they call a "scratch" test will show anything he is allergic too.

Ask your Doctor for a referral to a dermatologist so the rash can be thoroughly investigated and appropriate medication, whether oral or a cream, prescribed. It cannot be much fun for your poor son to have a rash that annoys and irritates him. Good luck and I hope it is cleared up soon.

I'd check with a dermatologist...skin is their specialty. It could also be an allergic reaction to something he ate or touched. Be sure to have it checked out.

this could be anything from contact dermititis to yeast infection. My son had a yeast infection on his face and other parts as well when he was younger. He's prone to lots of skin allergies such as hives r sensitivies as well. I say if you haven't taken him already make sure it's not something that can't be cleared with benadryll and hydrocortizne till you can. I hope all is well.

I would definitely make a trip to your dermatologist, there they can test and see what's going on. Many test they can do in-office. Who knows, a test of any kind may not even be necessary. I hope you find the root of your problem. I can only imagine how uncomfortable your little boy is. Take care.

no she never mentioned that. its really weird looking. he did not eat anythign diffrent. and i have not changed soaps ro anything. the docotr said he could have rubbed up against someone at school that had something on them that his skin didnt like. she put him on a steroid and a stronger dose of benadryl. and i tell you i could tell when it was time for his medicine cause he would break out all over again. as long as the medicine was in him he was fine. it lasted for about 4 days with the medicine. thanks for your comment.
