Are you handy around the house?

This is for men and women. Personally I can't hang up pictures. I can't wire a plug unless I open another one and look at it. I can't repair broken hinges/doors. It's all left up to hubby. So, if you're no good at things like this, who does it for you?

No I am not handy around the house. My husband does it all. I am just like you I cant even hang a picture straight. He does all the plumbing, and he put up a very large red wood deck in our back yard and a oak fence, he is very good.He also made my kitchen biger by adding on to it.I can use a hammer but after a while my hands gets tired.

I would love some decking out the back but I wouldn't hold my breath while waiting on my husband to do it. I'll have to get someone in to do that.
I can't use a hammer. I'm afraid of hitting myself. And I'm so clumsy that I would.

I'm no good at such stuff either..my hubby to the rescue!lol..I can hang pictures, clean the place and keep things in order. But when it comes to fixing stuff he is better. Sometimes he gets mad at me that I don't make an effort to atleast give it a try, but I'd rather him do it than me screwing it up!!

I think my husband likes the fact that he can fix these things and I can't. It makes him feel like the man about the house. LOL!

I'm not very handy at all. If somthing is loose, I can tighten it. My husband just tell me to make him a list and he fix them as he gets time. Sometimes that is quite a while.

I made a list four years ago for my husband. He finally got around to doing the last thing on that list last year. Sigh! Now there's a new list. :)

In this house if I don't do it my-self it will never be done, My Partner is a plasterer by trade and is always off working so I do things, He also is a disaster with electricity and well lets say worst with plumbing (which I love). I won't touch electricity so my Dad sorts out any problems there, He's fantastic he literally can turn his hand at anything, He's also a great teacher. We don't need to get anyone else in as we tend to do it ourselves, the only problem there is that it can take us ages, so sometimes its worth employing someone as you lose your own days pay and just get stressed where if you get someone in, their in and out quickly. But its great to be able to do things your self.

That's the problem here too. My husband is great at all these DIY things and can usually manage most things, but by the time he'd get around to it I'd have had someone in and out to do it.

I think I can do most jobs except the electrical stuff. I have to do the painting and the wallpapering as my husband would hang the paper crooked and he would also manage to turn the paint inside out. I have tried to teach him how to hang a door and replace locks but he takes so long about everything that I end up doing the jobs myself. He needs to be supervised at all times.

I couldn't help laughing at the thought of you supervising your husband Alexandria. LOL! Very funny too that you should be the one teaching him how to hang a door.

So there are no loose doors in your house then. Lucky you! It's great to be able to do all the DIY bits.

I love doing stuff around the house. The process of repairing things and learning how to repair things was started way back in my early childhood, you know, like keeping a draft out of the cave, repairing mastodon traps... stuff like that.
Learning this stuff has made me money and made me become more and more self sufficient and resourceful in life and in business...
and NO, I don't put down those who can't do the things that I can, I see these talents as a natural part of my life, like blood, bone and sinew...
Everyone is good at something, I'll bet your hubby could tell you straight away why he loves you! :)

I learned to be the handy person in my household when I met my first husband. We lived together a year before we married and he really didn't know much about repairs, gardening, or housework. Now in my second marriage, my husband refuses to let me fix anything. I am happy to hand it over to him.

Oh I'm happy to leave the repairs to my husband too. And he's happy to leave the cooking to me so all's well. :)

Well Biddy I have to say I am quite good at this sort of thing as the Ex did nothing so I rather did it myself I even decorate myself even though I am not suppose to anymore with my Lungs and I haven't in 3 years now but I love decorating so I am quite Handy at things lol Might try wiring a light next what do you think lol

Ooh Gabs, be careful going into the wiring business, lol! I'd try my hand at the painting but that's about it. I'm actually getting a painter in this weekend to do the hallyway. I wouldn't chance trying to reach the ceiling over the stairs myself. I'd rather get someone else to do that.

I am not really handy around the house. I can use a hammer and nail well, but I prefer not to. I leave all the repairing to my dad and brothers. They like doing the repairs anyway. The only things that I repair are my computers. Nobody else in our house touches them when they are out of order, because I am the only one in our family who can troubleshoot computers. :)

Well I can't even fix the computers. Being able to fix the computers can save an absolute fortune when something goes wrong. :)

i think that i am pretty handy when it comes to simple things, like hanging a picture putting toys and funiture together and fixing a leaky spiket. but when it comes to major things like appliances, either my boyfriend will fix it or my step dad will come to fix it.

I would have to say I'm very handy around the house. I even have my own set of tools, which replaced my high heel shoes (hammer) and butter knives (screwdriver). If I don't know how to fix it, I find out how :)

Well done you. That's great. I'd love to be able to do the odd jobs but I don't even like the thought of them.

Usually I try to leave that all for my husband but I am not a patient person so I always end up starting it and then it irritates him that I am doing it so he will get up and finsih the job . I can hang pictures no problem but I am not that good at centering them and as for broken hinges and stuff like that my son loves to do that stuff . In the end my husband still has to go back and tighten everything though because he says we don't tighten the screw tight enough . One way to get him to do it though is to start myself :)

Sometimes I start the jobs when hubby delays too long in doing them. But I take out the tools and huff and puff a lot and look irritated and then eventually he takes them and does the job. LOL!

i don't havea problem with that. i learned all that stuff from my dad, when i worked with him doing construction. and from other various jobs i have done. as of the moment, i am in the process of building an apartment for me and my gf. got it framed and sheathed. not need to wire it up, insulate it, rock it, and paint it. the roof could stand replacing, because it is a tin roof, but for the moment it will do.
