Monkey Helpers for the Disabled is a national nonprofit serving quadriplegic and other people with severe spinal cord injuries or mobility-impairments by providing highly trained monkeys to assist with daily activities. As live-in companions, the monkey helpers provide 20-30 years of service, bringing the gifts of independence, companionship, dignity and hope to the people they help. I think this is awesome. My mother thinks we should look into fostering a baby monkey for them... doesn't that sound fun? It's alot of work though. http://www.helpinghandsmonkeys.org/pages/about.html

Really if you think about it a monkey is much more versatile than a dog. Trust me I am not putting the dogs down, but a monkey could do so much more. I could see them doing all kinds of things that another animal would not be able to. I think this is a great idea.

That would be awesome to foster a baby monkey and if you feel up to it I think you should do it if that is what you want. I think that it is great that monekys can be trained like this to help others and make them feel as dependent as they can.

Well we are just beginning to look into it. It's a big commitment. You have to feed and care for the monkey, buy the cage etc. First you have to be approved and I don't even know yet what that entails.

Great idea, if you have the time and patience. Service animals are essential to many disabled persons. I hope you have fun and find that you are a blessing in this endeavor.
