I think the mangas are one of the most creative pools in pop culture today. Its topics range from real society issues to farfetched fantasies and presents this both visually and literary. And because of its popularity, its been adopted to various kinds of medium like radio shows, dramas, and movies. While I have nothing against it, sometimes it can really stain one's imagery of the characters and the story. Take NANA for example, its one of my most favorite mangas of all time but was HUGELY disappointed with the movie adaptations...its not that i dont like the actors (i LOVE Mika Nakashima) but it just doesnt do it for me...to the point that i wish they hadnt done it in the first place. For the DEATH NOTE movie however, it was pretty mediocre but not bad all in all. Just not as spectacular as the manga~ (well they rarely are anyways) But drama adaptations of ZHAN SHEN MARS and METEOR GARDEN (hanayoridango) takes the cake. I found it really good and it does justice to the manga~ (is it because its Taiwan-produced?) =X SHINOBI:Heart of Blade (from Basilisk) was also good, as well as SAILORMOON and CRYING OUT LOVE AT THE CENTER OF THE WORLD. HANAKIMI is now in production, as well as THE LAST VAMPIRE, DETECTIVE CONAN and CLAMP SCHOOL DETECTIVES~ im really looking forward to those... im curious to how they can produce fantasy-based live actions but heck if SAILORMOON and BATTLE ANGEL can do it... XD

But since we dont often see blue hair, it a litlle bit weird when they trsnform into sailor I think its better Magic knight rayearth. When they transform , their hair still black but the type hair is change ^^

i would like to see some anime's turn into live actions. The one i have seen a little of was Initial D. Although they did a somewhat good job of it, I think America could have done a slightly better job as of the way of visual effects. Also, when they do a movie about an anime series, they need to do the anime justice. sometimes compression (which goes with all series that are turned into movies) takes away from the storyline. One anime movie i would like seen done into a live action would be Akira, but since most anime are fantasy driven the cost alone would be a problem. i mean, over the years we've turned countless american comics into movies and series. Superman, Batman, Spiderman, Hell Boy, Dare Devil, Elecktra, X-Men...they have all been very well done movies. for those long time fans though it may have been a little dissapointing. but for those who know little to nothing of the characters of the storyline, its a way for them to get into it and possibly make new fans. i think its only a matter of time with the growth of anime and manga in the US that its bound to catch the attention of some Hollywood producer. i just ask that they keep it somewhat to the original storyline and do some justice to the anime/manga.

well, as for Initial D the live action. They really screwed around with the storyline. in the one, i'd prefer the anime. they protrayed to father as a drunken idiot where in the anime, is likes to drink, but they don't show Takumi dragging him up the stairs. They also mixed up a few characters and all that. I also heard about a new anime i started watching called Prince of Tennis, which was just released in May 2006 in a live action format, they also have Live Action Musicals for this as well...kind of funky, but they're still doing it so i guess its pretty big...in japan at least.

Yeah, I've only ever seen the one for Initial D. I wouldn't say that I'd necessarily prefer live-action over the usual anime format that manga gets translated into, but I'd say it's probably fun to watch it after you've seen the anime. I don't think live-action will take the place of anime if it hasn't already.

anime is by nature unique, as manga is genuine and pure.. it gave me a lot of things to learn specially the art of drawing, sketching, charcoal etc... thus, anime and manga is a separate world for me, if tv series tries to do as what the story of manga started, i may find it a very critical one.. because most of the created stories are extra beyond human capabilities.. although the entire essence is there, most are not as exact as i am expecting it to be.. take example by legend of condor heroes.. the animation is totally excellent than of the tv series, because the epical romance revolves in a very complex and complcated story pattern, thus i say is not an easy thing to narrate in human forms... some of it like meteor garden is just plan main drama of love and friendship no cosmic and extra powers and so forth thats why the story was captured becase its been a lot easier to make. but as i say, because of anime and mangas... the root of newer taste and better story line was created, not only in tv shows, but of appreciation in arts like fashion as well.. robots, machines, animals, skinny bodies, all of the new generation..it all begun in paper then in reality, like it or not, people may argue, but i say anime had the greatest infuence of new evolution of our time.

Live actions are a lot of fun.. Ofcourse they are nothng like the anime but it's kinda cool see people play the characters and imagine that this is how they would look in the real world.. Also did you see the musical of hunter X hunter? This was totally awsome! Mostly because the characters where played by the voice actors :)

Most live action adaptations of anime and manga are terrible. The best I've seen so far is the Live Action Musical of BLEACH. Others are really.. well. disturbing.. =) I'm planning to go watch the Haruhi Live Action adaptation some time. =)

I'd rather they just left them in their animated form. Often times what happens in the anime is hard to reproduce in a quality that makes it look realistic. We end up with cheesy adaptations and that is just disappointing and doesn't serve the anime any justice. After giving several a chance I decided to stick with the animated forms only.

I never liked any live action versions of anime/manga. I saw a few episodes of the GTO live action, and I didn't like it. It didn't give the same feeling that the anime and manga did, nor was it as funny. I got the NANA live action moive a few months ago, I have yet to watch it though. I heard it was good but I won't know untill I watch it.

this is why japanese are the most awesome manga makers in the world. i love the idea as well as the phasing of their manga series. they make it as if you would wanna be a part of that story

i really love watching anime and reading manga's i think its really fun knowing the author's real view on their anime's. what is more important to me also is that there are no fillers in manga because in the anime episode they add fillers to make it longer. so i love reading the manga to know the real story

Well, some live-adapations were good, some were bad. I choose DEATHNOTE as my best movie. Have you watch Tenipuri(Prince of Tennis) live adaptation too? Some says it's not too good, but I want to watch it anyway. I want Yu-Gi-Oh for the live movie! It's so interesting! :)

I think there have been a few good live-action adaptations, but I prefer the animated versions of almost anything fantastic. CGI special effects just look cheap to me.

I actually liked Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon. It's so far the only live action anime adaptation I've seen, and yes it was campy, but I liked it. And I loved the costumes. I'm looking forward to the live action Ouran Host Club series. I've seen the cast photos and I'm actually very impressed with the actors and how well they seem to reflect the characters. Except Kyouya, but I'll reserve judgment until I've actually seen it. I think the success really depends on the actors and how well the writers know and are into the story.

for me it depends if they will be able to make the live adaptation as good or maybe as close as those on the mangas and animes, if they won't alter certain things...
