Anyone like to decorate birthday cakes?

Sunflower cake - This is a picture of the sunflower cake my daughter and I made for her 21st birthday. The cake mix was store bought, but I made the icing from scratch.

For years I have decorated my own birthday cakes for the family. I buy a cake or cookie cake mix, however I make my own icing and do the decorating myself (my daughter has been helping me with a couple lately) they used to look really basic but they have become a little more complex. For my sons 18th birthday we made a cake that looked like a monster truck, it was our first attempt at that, I think it turned out pretty good, and we made a sunflower cake for my daughters 21st birthday, who knows what I'll do for my other sons 9th birthday. It's a lot of fun and when my daughter helps, it's great bonding time.

You should feel very proud of yourself. I teach how to do cake decorating. You had teach yourself and you had also found the way in how to spend quality time with you kids. The reason why I became interested in cake decorating is because my mother did it too. Keep up the good work.

My Daughters 4th birthday cake! - cake
I love decorating cakes. I started on after my first daughters birhday. I hired this lady to make her a cake because I did not want a generic store bought cake and the lady did not show up. Ever since then I have been making and decorating them myself. Check out my profile there are some pics there. Here's 1 pic, this was the first time I ever expeiremented with fondant.

Oh, yes. I have always decorated all of our cakes. I usually don't know until the last minute what I will create. I would post some pictures here , but I don't have my number at 500. Maybe I'll see if I can dig up some pictures later and add them to the interests catagory. I'm not great, but my family has always liked them. That's what counts. LOL

I decorate cakes professionally. Cakes are a very important part of many gatherings, particularly birthday parties and weddings. The fact that you make birthday cakes yourself instead of opting for the generic grocery story cake is very heartwarming! It shows that you are a very loving and attached kind of person. To me, there's nothing in the world that feels better than the look on a child's face when he sees that special birthday cake just for him! And the feeling is even more delightful knowing that you put it there and poured a bit of yourself into it. :) Did you teach yourself to cake decorate? You're doing a fantastic job! Cake decorating is a very enjoyable and rewarding hobby in so many ways. That is why I've decided to do it for the rest of my life. I'm glad to see you love this hobby so much. Keep it up!

Thank you for your response and positive comments. I did teach myself. I took home ec in high school (almost 24 years ago when home ec was taught in high school). We had one in cake baking and decorating lesson, so I've been decorating my own since then. I only just started making my own icing a little over a year ago. My kids and my family are amazed that I can make icing and that it tastes better than the store bought stuff in a can; it works better for decorating too. It is an enjoyable and rewarding hobby.
