it is difficult to maintain a computer for 10 years, because you cannot find right components. for example: one of my computers is AMD Duron 1300MHZ on socket A. Now is difficult to find a Socket A motherboard or another CPU tu use on my motherboard. Modern motherboards use SATA hardisks so my UATA hardisk is on die, etc..

My computer have been 2 years old and i always upgraded my computer to better specifications. I have a computer which is 8 years old. I didn't do anything to old computer as it was use only to write and others work used by my parents. But nowadays this computer will get even worst as it needs more maintenance.

My computer is approximately 3 years old, and it has fallen behind hardware wise. I'm thinking of upgrading it soon. Well maybe this computer will still be working after 10 years, but it will be so old and weak that it won't be able to run any more programs. So I would have to replace with a new one.

Yeahh..you only need is to have a proper maintenances..checking CMOS battery, fan of the processor, the silicon paste between heat sink and the processor, the power supply if is giving the right voltage and checking for viruses..there are viruses makes hardware brokes..

I doubt if our present system could stand up to even three years. With the fast pace of technology, the high-end specifications that we have now will surely be a mid-end or even a low-end specification after three years. The life expectancy of a computer for me is three years maximum. Well of course, it will still depend on what application you will be using. If your current system could still handle all your needs then there's no need to upgrade. And one more thing, if your system can't cope up with new applications, try to squeeze some juice out of it. Try over-clocking! (^_^)

Well, as long as you consult some hardcore over-clockers then it would be safe.

keep using it everyday and keep the fan of the processor and the main unit free from dust. if u use your computer everyday or every once in a week then the CMOS battery would not require a replacement. doing these things will give u trouble free performance for years to come

Well if u dont use ur computer it can last any number of years :P My pc is 4 to 5 years old, still no sign of complete problem or replacement, I just need 1 GB RAM perhaps after 2/3 years I will need a 3D PCI card too, but for the moment it is doing well. You have to do little things to make it long lasting, secure it from falling down, dont put ur hardware out, dont plug off the cables behind CPU, such things cannot be stopped but certainly can be reduced, also clean ur pc at least once in two months, pressuer with air (bloor) is a professional approach to clean it from inside

my computer is about 4 years now. i can feel the oldness in my computer. i upgraded the ram and according to me it is very difficult to maintain a computer more than 6 years. as we all know the computer field is fast developing new technologies are emerging every day. so models may vary every year. so it is very tough to get spareparts for old computer.

my computer is 3 years old and my other desktop computer would be at around 9-10 years. i do maintain my computer. basic maintenance would be best like regular cleaning. i think it would last even more than 10 years.
