Life of a waiter/waitress

I want to get a discussion going on how the life of a server is absolutely rediculous. I've been working as one for at least 2 years in the Olive Garden and although the money can be good, you really get a sense of what people really are when you are serving them. For example, you would think that a normal person walks into a restaurant and just orders food, eats the food and then leaves. But for some reason, people tend to think that if the food takes a little longer, they must be dying and they start throwing temper tantrums like 3 year old babies. I mean, you're not dying or bleeding to death, I just don't get it lol. I want to know some other peoples experiences with serving and some stories about what you have all had to go through, because I have seemingly been through it all while serving and I can tell you it's very interesting.

I have been a waitress and certainly can relate to what you are saying. Some of these temper tantrum people have big egos but little power in their real lives. Going out to eat is their chance to be the big shot. So, they do not pass up any opportunity to show off and belittle others. The only defense is to serve them flawlessly. When a problem does occur, apologize before they can complain. When they do complain anyway, only say "Yes sir" while offering no execuses. Okay, now, you asked for stories. I've got one. We had a notorius non tipper where I worked. He also always ordered the same thing evertime he came in. One time I saw him walking from his car across the parking lot to our restaurant. Before he got into the restaurant I was able to fill his order and set it down at his table just as he sat down. He literally did not have to wait for even one second. My tip? 25 cents! LOL.

I applied for a waitressing job today, just because the diner isn't open late and tips are always nice. I hope I enjoy it. I know some people can be real nitwads. But as long as they leae a nice tip, I suppose that would make up for everything.

Hem ...well now where do I start, I was a waitress for about 15 years loved every exciting moment of it!!! I have thrown a woman her tip back, dumped a glass of sweet tea on a man with a gropey hand , a few other things but any ways. After all that I bought a reatuarant of my own and ran it for 11 years and loved every minute of that. Sometimes you are cut out for jobs and sometimes your not. I am assuming ( you know what that makes me ) that you are young and probaly in college so its something you need to do right now , but your time will come when you have a job you love and are great at and you will laugh about those fun days. :) Just remember when people are hungry they act a little grumpy :)

I worked for the olive garden for 2 years and I understand COMPLETELY where your coming from. I couldnt stand the lunch soup and salad and dinner pasta bowls. The only good thing was that you can eat just about whenever you want. Haha. I would ring up a refill from the pasta bowl and then just take it to the back and scarf it down! The desserts were a tasty treat as well!
