Type it or hand-write it? Why so?

I was just wondering how many of you prefer to type their articles/poems/stories, etc as opposed to writing them in a notebook or something? Personally, it depends on my mood. But I find myself more inclined to writing out my thoughts on paper. Somehow I find myself accomplishing more when I do so. Typing it out isn't bad either. but sometimes I get more pregnant pauses this way. What's your take on it?

I write them, down first because ideas come to me anytime when I'm on the go. Then, if I have time, I type them. I only type those I have already written on paper. I just transfer those on typewritten record after I've finished writing them down.

Well, in my opinion and as I wish, I like to write my articles, poems etc. first on some piece of paper, as concentrating and getting good thoughts while on a PC is quite difficult. After the fair draft has been made on paper, then I easily type it on the PC.

All my poems that I have written are in an exercise book and that way if there is a computer crash I won't lose them, I far prefer to have them written out and I can hide the book because it is private to me as well as poetry I write a daily journal this is extremely private and I always keep it away from people, I like to use a fountain pen when I write because it is neater and its memories I can treasure for a long time.

Wow. A fountain pen! I've watched my father use it before and was mesmerized by it. However, I've never tried writing something with one. I tend to put in a lot of pressure in my writing and I can imagine the ink bleeding out. Maybe someday, who knows?

I type everything out. But I'm horribly arthritic, so holding a pen or a pencil is near-torture to me, and my scrawl is so poor that I couldn't even read anything I've written anyway. I enjoy the sound of keys clacking, and the steady progress of the cursor moving across the screen. I find it relaxing and professional.

I can't imagine being arthritic, it must be painful & bothersome! I agree with you that the sound of the keyboard is enjoyable, maybe even helps one's thoughts to come forward. Type away!

When I'm writing poetry I use a notebook in which I scratch and switch words and lines and move them around the page. Then I type out the poem and let it rest and review it till I'm satisfied. Texts I always type out in word. I'm better at typing than writing since my handwriting is hardly legible when I'm writing fast.

I too have horrible scribing. Fortunate for you and I there is the machine. Imagine the scribes of yesteryear. Poor poets that had painful postings of pampered musings. They styled by any means. This professionalism, I return as trancical.

I usually put down my thoughts on paper, one main reason is I often get a few lines of poetry in my head and a paper and pen are the closest to put down those thoughts. Most poems I write are a rough draft at the first attempt, later I make a fair one and then type it out to submit on a poetry site. I have written good ones at the first attempt too:)

Good for you! You must be quite talented! Sometimes, when I write, I find it doesn't flow as well as I thought. Although I am like you in that I find pen & paper more accessible since the computer isn't always on.

It really depends for me. If I know exactly what I need to say, and if I just need to go through and edit as opposed to coming up with content, then I will type something. But if I'm brainstorming or coming up with something on the spot, like freewriting, I like to hand write things. I get too distracted on the computer if I don't have a precise task to do. Plus I don't know what it is, but I feel like I brainstorm better handwriting things...

For me, it's typing all the way. I hate having to write anything out by hand. My hand can't write fast enough to keep up with my mind when I'm writing. From a news story to a grocery list, I prefer typing it.

I prefer to type. It is because when i type i can correst the mistake immediately and cleanly. I don't like to write on the paper, it's too slow.

I would anyday prefer writing my poetry or short story on a piece of paper than typing. Meanwhile, typing offers flexibility. I can endlessly play with my words if I am using my laptop. As far as i am comfortable, I don't think it should matter.

I think for writing articles/poems/stories its suitable to typing your matters coz, its very clear than handwriting. First you write your thoughts in paper than typing your matters in your computer is better.

It's definitely good to see what you've handwritten as something typewritten...how the words will look, how they will flow.

I typically write it out in a notebook and if I still like what I've done or feel motivated to finish it, I will type it on the computer and save it for the next time. I'm very picky about such stuff, and tend to fill more notebooks than completing new documents on the computer. Somehow, writing stuff by hand makes me feel more connected to a given project.

Yeah I'd say it depends how I feel too. Sometimes I'll start writing longhand and get stuck, so I start to type it on the computer and I'll naturally get past the point where I got stuck, and finish what I was writing. Handy tip to get over writers' block!

I tend to write things down on paper first (though my penmanship does tend to become sloppy most of the time!) then after, do my revisions on MS word. I guess with writing it, I can do it anytime thoughts come into my head, as long as I have a piece of paper & a pen with me.

I prefer typing instead of writing even though I don't dislike writing but it's a little bit slower than typing, that's the main reason I prefer the first one, besides I think having it typed and printed is much more pleasant to read to others than our own letter.

I love paper and the flow of the pen. My creativity flows better when I handwrite things - poetry, short stories, novels. Everything gets typed and printed up eventually but I like to write first. I am constantly buying pens and notebooks I don't even need. I started journaling when I was in high school and have just loved to write ever since.

I feel the same way you do. Somehow seeing my work written by my hand makes it more personal, with all the erasures and strike-outs! But later on I type out some of my work, too.

I agree, it does depend on your mood. It definately depends on my mood with writing. I like to write out my ideas first because if I do then I can get the jist of what I want down. Then afterwards I can type it up and add something here, embelish a little there. So personally I think writing and typing has it's perks. lol

It depends. When I am writing something of value (like poems or thoughts), I tend to write using pen and paper. I also do all mys studies using paper. Same for deawing. As for typing, I use it when I finish what I wrote in paper (like poems). I also use tuping for research paper or reports. So to sum up. Writing for initial thoughts and works, while typing is for the finished product. I think that a written copy of my work is very important.

It truly depends on the purpose of what you are writing about or for...also time plays in a key factor I suppose. I agree with you that final work should be typewritten.

Me, i rather be type not hand written, because i am lazy writing in a papers. I like just typing it in the computer. When i write it took me forever to finish one page , than typing. The defference also between typing and wrting is that if you make a mistake, you can just delete it in a pc but in a piece of paper you just have to use a eraser or what they call it. Or maybe turn to another page. sometime it just waste of time...

There is that great convenience of editing on the computer! It is quite a time-saver indeed...
