24 Hour Suicide Watch

A very close friend of mine has been very depressed lately. I have been in constant contact with her, and have had other friends in contact with her when I am not available. I am afraid that she may attempt suicide, as she told me she has before. Should I, at the risk of alienating her from the only friend she feels she can count on, call in the authorities... or should I with the help of friends keep her on 24-hour suicide watch?

you should call in the authorities, but stay with her and let her know you care she needs help...

She has had constant companionship (whether she liked it or not) and her doctor was called, although the doctor did not take it seriously. The doctor said she would call in a prescription, and never even did that much.

I would commend you for your concern you really are a true friend to her. i would suggest that you need others who understand her situation to help her out of it. I do believe that you alone might not be able to help her out depending of course with how severe is the depression going on. It might be needing additional intervention like psychiatric or psychological approach. But I would suggest to be with her all the times because that will keep her hanging. i do hope there are other family members who could help like you are.

I would hope that if I were in her shoes, there would be someone there for me as well. Although she is not entirely over it, she is taking medications and seeing both a therapist and pshychiatrist on a regular basis now.
