The saddest anime I've seen yet is Elfen Lied. It's filled with sad events that really appeal to your emotions. I guess that in 13 episodes wich it has, the emotional transfer is huge. You should watch it if you haven't :)

I have to add that Elfen Lied is 'psychologically damaging' especially the minors and the weka of heart. =)

Yup! The ending of the series was really sad but if you will watch the ending part, the writer made it looks good for the wolves because after they die they found themselves to where they want to be or its just some kind of illusion. It was like that they were reincarnated or sort of who, just an assumption. The wolves fight well and the comradery was for real!

Better watch out for your spoilers. =D Most people haven't actually seen the anime (like me). =)

I have to agree that Kimi ga Nozomu Eien (Rumbling Hearts) was very sad. I watched all the episodes in 1 sitting and felt bad for the characters.

the saddest anime i've watched was "Grave of the Fireflies", then after 20 years since that anime was released, they made a remake of Grave of the Fireflies, live action.. still sad though..

Voices from a Distant Star is a very sad but good anime. I cried on that one and Cobits made me cry too but it also made me laugh

Try watching The Grave of the Fireflies. =) It is a real tearjerker. There are still lots of other titles like Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien (Rumbling Hearts), Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora (Hantsuki, Looking Up at the Half Moon).

I agree that Grave of the Fireflies is one sad story. Have you ever seen Gungrave? I think it's kinda sad too. The suffering and the things you have to do.. tsk :(

The anime that made me cry the most was "The Grave of the Fireflies." It was such a sad film! I cried so much at the end.
