being in the kiddie party business myself, i had clients who were willing to spend more than PHP100,000 (around $2,000)just for a 1st bday party. it's as grand as a wedding. how about you, how much are you willing to spend for the birthday party of your baby? btw, you can check my link at http://community.webshots.com/user/yanple

hi! my son will turn one this september and i'm really looking forward to it. i'm planning and searching for suppliers as early as now since my budget is P50,000 or $1000. i would love to spend more for his birthday but i don't think it's practical to spend a big amount of money. i just have to think of ways to make sure that he will still enjoy and be happy on his birthday.

Hi, Apple! We spent about Php20K (approx USD400) for I think 200 people on the guest list. I would have wanted to spend less except that this was a first grandchild and we had so many relatives and friends. I think the next party my son will be having will a close family only affair.

really, $400 for 200 guests?! wow, how simple was that? and upon doing the math, that would be P100/guest only, including food and everything. congrats!

Yep, just spent around that amount. It was a McDo party. So I didn't have to spend for the entertainment, the place and decors. I just went for the bare essentials. I needed to keep within the budget kasi eh. Didn't want to end up in debt just because of a party. I MIGHT have splurged more if we had more money at that time. But at that time, I really wanted to spend as little as possible.

Nice post you got here. I am currently planning for my daugter's first birthday this coming September. Can you please give me an estimate for a bumblebee theme party for 50pax? I'm new at giving parties and I sure am in a tight budget at this coz I don't celebrate my birthday as well. Mostly we just go out for dinner. Please adv. Thanks.

For my son's first birthday party, we spent around $1,500.00, with more than 200 guests. First birthdays are major events especially since we're Chinese. For his 2nd birthday this year, budget is about $500.00.

What could a parent want more for their kids is to give them the best life ever. But it all depends on the budget. If we have extra money to spend much for a kiddie party, specially for a 1st birthday party, why not? But in our case, wherein we have a lot of expenses and bills to pay, like monthly utility bills, food expense, insurance, tuition fees, etc., having a grand party for our kids is not really a priority as of the moment. Not unless, if someone is willing to sponsor it, like grandparent's do most of the time, it will be a bonus on our end. Perhaps, a simple kiddie party will do for 1st birthdays, because the celebrant would not really appreciate it much during that time. I think it will be much better to have a grand or extra special party on their 7th (for a boy or a girl) or 18th birthday (for girls). In this way, they would appreciate more the celebration.

There are a lot of ideas already for kiddie parties nowadays. I also didn't think before that I could spend around Php100,000 for our first born's bday but we did. We wanted it to be extravagant because our precious first born was a long wait for us. It took us more that two years to get pregnant and she came in our life very sweetly. Her birthday has to be well-celebrated with families and friends. Then after 11 months, I got pregnant again...I now have the dilemna of spending the same amount for our second child because we also don't want anything less than what we gave our first born. My daugther's bday pictures are at http://community.webshots.com/user/margauxturns1

I saw your photos and it looks great! On our wedding we spent Php250,000 / $5,100 though I can't seem to think that we would spend Php100,000 / $2,000 for a 1st birthday where the celebrant will not remember anything. The most we can spend for a birthday party will be Php40,000 - 50,000 / $800 - 1000 when our son turns 7 years old. Good luck on your business by the way!

it really depends on a lot of things before you can come up with the total amount that you can spend for the party...nowadays, just using your creativity and imagination, you can surely save a lot.....I spent roughly 70k for the 1st bday party of my daughter, she had an out-of-town party, wer based somewhere in cebu and I'm from Manila, since I aint got friends and family in Cebu, I decided to have the bday in Manila and plan it from my place in Cebu...very hard and expensive this way, I had to get the first option I see...

you're right! we mothers have to be creative with our kids. we only want the best for them, but with the budget on hand, we need to be extra resourceful too.

For my daughter's first birthday party two years ago, we spent around PhP 75,000.00 (approximately $1,500) for most of it (caterers, food carts, magician, game prizes, lootbag items, pinata, balloons, mascot, 8x6 ft. personalized banner, invites, etc.) plus additional for some stuff bought by my mom when she went to the US (Themed plates, cups, spoons, table cloths, banners, etc.). My son is turning one this year and when I discussed party budgets with my husband, I don't think we'll be able to spend as much as my daughter's first bday party. Highest we could probably go this year would be around PhP50,000.00 ($1,000).

i guess that's the trend now, a bigger budget for a better party. because in order to get quality performance here in manila, you really need to spend a little more than the usual. as i always tell my clients, i hope you'll be able to resist temptations (hi-end magicians, game booths, inflatables, etc.) and stick to your budget. =)

i spent a little more than $1,000 for her bday/dedication party. before i had a daughter, i was horrified when a friend celebrated her son's 1st bday at hard rock cafe... but eventually when my turn came, my hubby was horrified to actually see hard rock's brochure in my files. hehe.. but no, we didn't hold it there though. as i read the responses of others, i guess this also boils down to the culture we filipinos have. I don't know if its the get together thing that we wanted. We don't have large houses that can cater our guests. so we opt to rent out a place. since most couples both work (overtime!), we wouldn't want to actually harrass ourselves with do-it-yourself stuff so we hire others to do those for us. And for the bulk of the guests, our culture wouldn't want anyone who would sulk and say we didn't invite them (especially if they are our relatives) who usually live closeby. and hoo-boy, our relatives do present a number of the guests. yes apple, i always keep you in mind when a friend needs a party organizer.

If money was not an issue, I would probably spend that much (or more)...I don't see why not as long as you can afford it and of course, willing to spend that much. I also know of someone who spent around Php250,000 (approximately $5,000) and I'd say that the party was awesome! The parents were happy, their child was ecstatic, and everybody had so much fun. So, was it all worth it? I say yes! I agree, it may not be very practical to some people, but the first birthday, most especially, is always a big deal to many. So I guess it all really depends on your lifestyles, tastes, preferences and pockets.

that is very true! some people can't understand why some are spending that much. but it really boils down to your preferences and priorities in life i guess.

hi apple...when our son turned 1, we spent around $2000 for his birthday party/dedication day and had around 100 guests. the reason for spending that much was we opted to get the full catering services so that we can mingle with our guests. when he turns 2, it will be a simple birthday celebration with just close friends and a budget of $500.00 no more no less.

yup, you're right. it's best to hire good people who will take care of your party. so you can atleast enjoy it as well and not be busy with every details of the party. we are also planning my son's 2nd bday. and i'm trying to have a simple one this time. i'm pegging my budget at $600, cross-fingers! =)

For my first born we spent about P10,000 for a Jollibee Party. We had 80 guessts, mostly adults though. But for our second baby, we didn't have any resources for another party. So my hubby brought the kids to Jollibee (the day before as he has work), then on the day of her bday I cooked spaghetti. My sweet Tita and cousin were the ones who gave her a party, though a week late. But it was just family, balloons here, streamers, cake and ice cream and my spaghetti. Total spent for that party P0.00.

I wouldn't think twice on spending that amount for my kids IF I have the money. I discovered that I liked putting together parties when I did my wedding. We spent a hefty amount for it and I never regretted it. I'd do the same with my kids. I am currently organizing my son's 1st birthday party. Since I have a LIMITED budget, i could only spend much. Still, I think the party would still be a blast.

good luck on your party planning. i believe that whatever amount we'll spend for a party, as long as we are all happy, we'll never regret it in the end. and besides, pictures and videos will always be there to remind us how successful our party was.

I DON'T HAVE A BABY YET BUT IF I HAVE A BABY AND I HAVE THE RESOURCES , ON HER FIRST YEAR BIRTHDAY I WOULD PROBABLY SPEND THE SAME AMOUNT OR EVEN HIGHER BECAUSE IT'S ONE MEMORY THAT HE/SHE WOULD FORGET .SO, IT HAS TO BE GRAND AS POSSIBLE SO BY THE TIME HE/SHE HAS GROWN UP , SHE COULD LOOK BACK AND EXPERIENCE THE EXCITEMENT.BUT IT ALL DEPENDS ON HOW MUCH DO YOU HAVE TO SPEND FOR A PARTY.

Oh my, that is alot of money just for a birthday party. I guess though if you have the money why not do it but I would never spend that much. If we do a big party, which is not too often, we have 3 and it's kind of hard to always throw a big party. We always try to do something though to make them feel special. But the most we've spent is probably 200.00. Wow, can't imagine spending 2,000!

My son is 7 years old, so I should not spend too much, and instead when it's my son's birthday I always spend much because I invite a lot of people. I don't spend 2000 dollars (it's really too much!!!!), but 400/450 dollars. It's possible to spend less, many friends of my son cook everything by themselves and save a lot of money, unfortunately I can't do anything and so I'm forced to buy everything.

for my daughter's first b-day i took her to park safari, an animal park. so that was about $50. and then i made the cake myself. for her second and third birthday we did the same so i didn't spend a lot. this summer though she now has some friends that she goes to dance class with so it will be a little bit bigger of a party. we are having a disney princess makeover party and i bought dresses and tiara's and jewelery for the girs. so it will cost me about $150 or so. i got some good deals so not too much considering i'm going to be making over 7 girls.
