I dont understand this concept of comparison between own child and neighbours child. Each individual has his/her own talent(may be hidden). This comparison is a big torture for a child who gets scared of being what he/she wants to be in life.Comparison is never encouraging.

Parents compare their child with neighbors because they want their child to be superior to others in every respect...That i think is purely emotional nothing more than that...

yeah you are right parents want their child to be the best. But comparison can make a child more wild.Other methods can be applied to make a child confident and strong aswell as successful.

yes thats true thats why children dont have a specific aim in life till they are 20 or so because their Parents want them to be Master of all trades and that is not possible...keep them going what they like and feel confident about..

Well no one can be master in all trades therefore parents should try to find their child's talent..

Comparing things is normal to people. I always compare life between here and America. It's just a way for some to prove their point. Don't feel bad if you're being compared, parents just want their kids to do better. If you think you're being compared to a sister who seems to be doing better than you, I'm sure that when your mom is comparing her to you, she is also pointing out your good points.

yes you are right but I feel an appreciation can bring more encouragement than comparison.

I think sometimes parents want to see if their kids are on track with others. I think sometimes parents want to show other that their kids are better or smarter than others. I compare how my 3 were as babies. I know every kid is different & I am not making any sort of negative comparision. I love all 3 of my girls for who they are. I know they will all have different strengths & weaknesses.

yes every individual is different and parents do best for their kids. But comparing mite harm a child.Parents should be best friends for a child as my mom has been always.
