I'm really curious how to improve the ranking that is associated to the star by your icon. I'm thinking that it must be related to people rating your answers. So if it is, please be sure to rate the posts that you share the views or really enjoyed the responses. What's your opinion about the ranking in the star?

Most of your ranking has to do with how people rate you. Some people are honest and use the system appropriately. But, some people use it wrong and will rate you negative based on the fact that they don't like your views. If you start a lot of discussions about religion or politics, chances are you're going to get rated negative by some people because they don't agree with you. It's impossible for everyone to agree with anyone on these subjects. Some people are adamant that you see things their way and that is the only right way. I posted something on religion and I know at least one person didn't like it and I'm sure she and her friends were the ones who bumped me from a 10 to a 9 rating.

To achieve good star rating keep up the quality discussions and responses. I always try to post a response to those discussions about which I have some knowledge and I can put a good response on it. Then you always have chance to get positive rating and best responses. That is what help you to achieve good star rating.

I wonder about this too. I am a 9 from the beggining (not that I complain cos I am really happy with that ranking). But a 10 would never hurt! I always give + to the responses that I get (not the abusive or one worded ones). I hope that I too get a + mark.

Well those that have been here for a while will already know the importance of good content. If you write a one word response you are not going to earn. The other important factor is to leave a response that is good enough to get 'Best Response'. I am sure that best response is the best way to increase your star rating. I had dropped from 10 to 9 and what I did was to find posts that I know about and could give the best response and my star went back up to ten again.

it also has to do with how the quality of your posts and responses. post good responses and discussions and you'll get a better rating as well as others have stated the ranking of your discussions and posts by other users.

The general rules of the game is pretty popular here.I do not want to repeat them.I see here some people with nonsensical discussions do possess a higher star ranking and people with good stuff scoring low. There need to be a check on this. The rating need to be dependent on members only to the extend of 50 percent and the rest to be decided by the moderators.secondly if things happen as misskatonic has opined here there need to be a control, say no one to be allowed to rate a person negative more than a particular number in a month or so, that would minimize the damage. I have one more suggestion to add.Be polite and not to be high or/and hot headed in discussions , that may lower the rankings , since P.R. is an important key to success in the modern world. Your writing style and opinions are sharp and soon I will see you with a 10 star.

The ranking is based on how your replies and discussions are rating. Positive ratings increase the number, negative ratings decrease the number. The problem with this is that there are people who use it wrongly. They use it to attack people who don't share their views and will go and rate all of a person's replies and posts with negative ratings in some form of petty revenge. Which has made some people afraid to voice differing opinions, which I think is awful. We shouldn't have to worry about a handful of people who never evolved beyond kindergarten level.

the best way to improve your star ranking is to make your responses a t least 4 lines and they shoudl be quality responses too. also when you get responses to discussions that you started you should always write a comment to anyone who had a question and also you should mark which response was the best response.

This type of star ranking system, if it is indeed reliant on how well people who post like the answers or comments they receive, seems to me to be quite inbred, and not worth much if that is the case. Yet, it is by peer review that most things are accomplished, at least in the learned world, so the system must be allowed to try and work, and so far this one looks like it does work.
