What do you think about banning french fries from restuarants. Would it help American's obesity?

How far should we allow Governments to go? America is a democracy and now they want to tell you what you can and cannot eat? Perhaps the problem with obesity can be attributed to the fact that these days sports is no longer compulsory in schools and so children do not get into good habits at a young age. I can see logic in not selling junk food at school canteens/tuckshops and teaching children good about good nutrition but they should not be able to dictate what people can eat all the time. That is up to the parents.

Peoples choices are what makes them fat not the resturants.

I don't think it is the government's job to tell us what we should be eating.

I agree! We are capable of making our own choices. They already have enough laws in place to govern everything else!

I can't imagine a ban on french fries being successful. It would just turn them into hot contraband commodities! It wouldn't be universally a good idea anyway because that's not the choice of all fat people anyway. If the United States really wanted to do something about obesity they would stop the use of high fructose corn syrup in so many different products. It is so bad for you!

what about burgers, hotdogs, dohnuts, cookies and the thousands of other fattening things you can buy. I don't think baning french fries would achieve anything

its ridiculous to think that banning something will mean people will stop using it. especially fries. but the government isn't here to keep up healthy, its to protect us from threats against the country. they shouldn't have the kind of control they do. we should enfore a new government where the people actually rule- not a pretend democracy.

Most people aren’t fat because of junk food. You can ban everything in the world that is unhealthy and what will you end up with? People who lack the responsibility to make their own choices. Obesity is a problem, though it’s no more of a problem for the person that is obese and has granted themselves little quality of life, that is the conequence of their action, they have the ability to change it. Losing weight is hard, but’s a lot harder to hate yourself day after day because of the way you look and what you weigh.

No, it wouldn't because people would just make them at home. It isn't hard to do. You can buy a machine that cuts your potato into fries...don't even have to peel it...and then you just drop them in a deep fryer. French fries are an american staple and they will not be done away with. I had heard that schools banned them but didnt' know they also talked about doing it in restaurants.

I'm sure if they banned french fries people would find another way of fattening up. It's all about lifestyle and moderation, so I don't think banning french fries is going to do much good.
