If you're in good health and meet all of the donation criteria, you can donate blood every eight weeks. If you're a healthy adult, you can usually donate a pint of blood without it endangering your health. Within 24 hours of a blood donation, your body replaces the lost fluids. And after several weeks, your body replaces the lost red blood cells. All of us know the facts. Still we feel not to donate. Why?

You gave a very good piece of information about donating blood. Your concernt regarding people being too afraid for donating blood should be taken as a big concern. I think there are two major reasons why people dont show interest in blood donations. First one is the lack of awareness. Most of the willing blood donars dont donate blood just because they think they will develop weakness if they give away some blood. They just dont know the entire information. So, awareness must be spread to overcome this. Second reason is that the blood banks we donate blood to do not use the donatde blood for what it is meant to. They at times use this blood to make money. Authorities should be strict in this regard. It will make people to lean towards blood donation.

Yes, that is another problem in India also. Instead of donating blood, some are selling it for getting advantage. Seeing the craziness Govt. involved to give some benefits for donating blood. Still the gap is more, blood is in demand. How the people going to realise the importance?

It is because of ignorance of the people about the subject and the lack of faith in the organisors of blood donation about the materials used in such occasions.

Media and celebrities are more involved in this kind of activity, still turnout is much lower. Volunteers are limited, demand is more for blood. Blood Banks are very less in number. Particularly in India political involvement is more and more for giving blood just for show. Actually the blood is not good for usage also. Coz they have given just for getting media attention. Good and educated healthy persons are not coming up.

For want of proper circulation and lack of knowledge about benefit of blood donation, people fear to do it. In our are there are blood bank i.e. people donate blood like us saving money in bank, they are giving a card showing amount of blood donated with blood group. If the donor need blood for himself then no question such group or other group blood is given to him quickly, if he request for other then blood bank arranging such blood as per donor's recommendation. In national or enjoyable festival people donate blood in our country specially young and student. We made them aware about benefit, necessity, humanity type work by donating blood and no fear rather people are very inspired and feel proud when donate blood to blood bank or to patient.

I have donated before. I don't live too close to a blood donation center. If one was closer to where we live now, I wouldn't have a problem donating.

If there is a will there has a chance for you to get involved in the morale activity. Hope in future distance may not come as hurdle for noble cause. Thanks for the posting.

Donating blood is actually good for the body. Why? According to my sister who is a graduating med student, donating actually cleans your circulatory system because old blood is removed from the body (i just termed it old blood) hence the body produces new blood that circulates in the body.
