I am a filipino and planning to work in a foreign country like canada.. I've heard people coming from their work abroad that racial discrimination really exist and is rampant in the work place. They further said that if i'm planning to work in a foreign country, i must be ready and strong enough to face racial discrimination.. i don't think racial discrimination is fair. why do even people judge another just by the color of his skin? i think its fair to see and get to know another person through his character, talents and skills, and integrity.. Would you do racial discrimination or will you be someone who upholds fair judgment and equality among people from every nation and race?

I sympathize with you livvy, and wish you the best of luck. I think that the majority of the people you will encounter are not racist, and will judge you based on the type of person you are, not your skin, but there will always be some jerks, and the rest of us just have to do our best to not become like them ("reverse racism" is just as bad and absurd as racism, yet somehow it gets viewed as more justified). I would suggest that when you move, see if you can find and get involved with the filipino community in your new city, as they may have a lot of helpful knowledge and experience to help you with any issues that you might face, being a new immigrant. For my money, I do my best to judge people only on their actions and the actions of those they choose to associate with, and I think most people are like this, but that there are still many who do not.

That is because people will always have different opinions on things. Let me tell you that I first moved to the US in 1989. I'm Pinay. In high school, there were less than 10 pinoys when I first came. Some people won't talk to you but later on some said they didn't because they weren't sure if we would understand them... but who wants to talk to people like that anyways. I got an A in English and someone was surprised and said "I didn't know you even spoke English" and I replied, "That's because you never even talked to me". Generally Americans are friendly, Canadians are too, my stepdad and his family are Canadians so I should know, I've worked with Canadians too. You shouldn't worry about racial descrimination at all because as long as you're there working legally, you have equal rights. Anyway back to my story :-) I worked in the US from 1990 to 1998 and only encountered 1 lady who was racist, she was really old too. Nowadays, there are so many people abroad who are not Americans or white so you shouldn't have any problems. I think you will be surprised that the problems you will have abroad will be from fellow Pinoys. I've dated Americans, if they were racist I don't think they would date me. As long as you're friendly, people will also be friendly.

Your comments gave me relief! Thank you for it and i am hopeful now that everything will be just fine when my time to work in a foreign country comes. I also hope that our fellow Pinoys wouldnt be that much of a problem when i get there. I wouldnt be a problem to them. :)

i am against discrimination of all types. it degrades someone's pride. it's not fair and it's not right. why should someone judge someone just by the way he/she looks? or maybe because you look and feel you are more superior than the person? there's no such justification to discrimination no matter how many times we defend it. it's always right to know a person well first before giving into conclusion. i knew lots of friends who are now in canada and the US working. and they always tell me that it's really true. discrimination is everywhere. but if you have the strong will to compete with them and prove to them your worth, you will earn their utmost respect. just be who you are and be proud. it's not always easy at first. but through the test of time of being there, you'll get used of their system and you'll learn ways on how you can prove yourself to them.

Yes, i agree with your views about racial discrimination.. I guess everybody should respect each other and not judge others without giving the benefit of the doubt.. its also a challenge to us who are and may be discriminated. Let us prove our worth!
