My first car was a 1976 Chevy Impala. It was a BIG blue boat with a V8 engine. Not quite sure what my parents were thinking about getting a V8 in my first car, but that's besides the point. I only paid $100 for it too, thanks to Dad! I even remember the license plate 906 * SBH and I used to say that SBH meant Some Big Hunk (of junk). Hey, it got me where I needed to go and I never had any problems with it. It was just too big and ugly. So, tell me about your first car.

My first car (admittedly my current car still) was a 1993 Red Toyota Paseo. I inherited it in a relatives will, so I'm still at the stage of refusing to part with it for the sentimental value.

WOW! It's a good thing that it's lasted so long for you!

It has. It still virtually runs like new. My mechanic often remarks what good condition it is in. It has hardly required any money spent on it either. Definetly gets me from point a to point b, with a good run out to the country every now and again for a little day trip.

Toyotas always seem to last forever, don't they? I've got a Toyota Solara I bought new in 2005 right now. That's one of the main reasons I got it - doesnt' need much work done to it, and they last forever. (Geez, I hope I didn't just jinx myself).

My very first car was a hand me down from my husband. It was a 1971 Pontiac Firebird, primed in gray. It was loud, falling apart and I started it every morning by hot wiring it. It sucked when I stopped for a buttered roll and a hot coffee on the way to work and a ton of police officers would suddenly appear. I was to afraid to hot wire my car and leave. LOL. PS, had to roll the window down to open the door from the outside, really sucked when it was raining and I had to get out. But I loved my car!

WOW! I'm guessing the keys got lost and that's why you had to hot wire it, yes? That's funny though. Although, at the time, I'm sure you didn't think so.

I'm guessing that you didn't change it because you enjoyed hot wiring the car then? (hehehe)

Mine was a baby blue Karmann Ghia. It was given to me from a friend of our family. She was an older woman that had only taken it to the grocery store and church once a week. Kept it washed and waxed weekly and in a garage. It was in excellent condition.

my very first car was an Ford LTD. I don't know if somew of you have even heard of it because I never see them on the road - not even on the Woodward dream cruize. It was big, it was rusted out, most importrant though, it was free. My dad was buying a new car and decided to give gthat to me. From then on, I boought my own cars.

marty3888 I've never heard of a Ford LTD, but that doesn't mean anything. It all depends on how long they were around for on whether I remember thier names.

The 1st car I drove was my mom's 1969 SS Elcamino. It was a step beyond v-8 being a big block. I also had a 1967 SS Impala to drive for a time when I was in high school. Loved it!! I wish I had talked my parents into scrapping the Mustang we were building and keeping the Imapala. It was ugly as could be, but so fun to drive, and we could fit 8 people and 12 6' flag poles in that car!

Yeah, those Impalas were definitely big. Wondering how and why you know about the 12 6' flag poles - that sounds interesting too.

Fraid it's not nearly as interesting as it sounds -- I was in the high school marching band.

My very first car, which was bought for me in 1995, was a 1987 Ford Escort. It was red with 2 doors and a sunroof. It was a stick shift and only had 30k miles on it.

i had a red Ford Escort with a stick shift. I never really learned to drive it too well. People would take me out to practice, but it never worked. I had it when I was living with my ex-fiancee and it turned into our car, and he did the driving since I couldn't drive it. It was a weird experience I'll tell ya.

I had a 1971 AMC Hornet, 3 speed on the column, blue with an orange door. I used to say it was the official Islander's car. If you were doing over 30 mph and you hit a bump, the entire car would shake, enough so that other drivers could see it. I drove that car back and forth from New York to Boston quite a few times, crazy lady that I am.

My very first car was an old ford pinto. It was red and only cost like $700 at the time I got it that was a good price and I loved it even though every time I went somewhere I had to put in a qt. of transmission fluid when I got there and more to get back home. lol.

I had a Mustang that had a similar problem, but with oil. I kept a case of oil in the trunk at all times. Thank God gas wasn't so expensive back then.

Well that's cool. I don't know many people that can afford a new car for their first car. The people that do have rich parents, and the parents buy it for them. A Pontiac Sunbird is a nice-looking car, so that's great too.

The first car I purchased for myself were actually 2 cars in a pre-owned car shop. I got a MKIV Toyota Supra twin turbo and a Mazda RX-7. Paid for them the same day, got them home the same day. That was back in 1998.

WOW! That sounds like a cool car to have. Isn't it great to have a Dad to help with your car-buying? My Dad helped me with every car that I've ever bought, except for my last one. I knew exactly what I wanted, and just went with my husband to go get it.

My first car was a '72 Plymouth Scamp. I kick myself for getting rid of that car. It was great. I got rid of it because it had a leak that I failed to fix so the trunk rusted out. If I had only filled that little gap.

My first car was a 1970 Ford Mustang (MACH 1). It was red with white racing stripes on it. My husband bought this car for me for $500 on my birthday. I loved this car and put a ton of money it to restore it. Years later I sold it and now wish that I would of hung on to that car.

It was 1978 and my parents bought her for me for my 21st birthday. She was a lovely banana yellow Ford Cortina, and I named her Chrissie! And, no, I have no idea why I named her so, but Chrissie somehow suited her. I kept her for 10 years, and then one day I came back to the office car park after work, and she had gone. She had been stolen:-(( The Police recovered her, but she had been used by young lads on a joy-ride, and was wrecked beyond repair:-(( And yes - I did cry!

You'd think that they wouldn't want to steal a "banana boat" as it would be too obvious. Guess they weren't good at knowing which cars to steal. Not that I'm an expert, but I'd imagine you wouldn't want one that brought attention to you or the car.

I didn't get help paying for my first car, or any of my cars for that matter. My dad just got me a good deal on the price - which I'm thankful for. I don't even remember how much we sold it for.

This question craks me up! My first car was a 1983 Dodge LeBaron (I got it in the year 1992. Everytime I stopped, HUGE plumes of smoke would come out from under the hood. When I went to buy my first "real" car, my father took the LeBaron the to fire academy, and set it on fire, and let the guys practice putting it out!
