What product do you use to melt the ice on your driveway, if any?

Ice Melter - This Prestone Driveway Heat Ice Melter is supposed to work much better than rock salt and melt 4 times more ice than rock salt does. I figure this would be a good investment with winter finally arriving and getting some snow soon.

I just went to the store today in preparation for some snow tomorrow night and into friday. It is called Preston Driveway Heat Concentrated Ice Melter. It is supposed to work much faster and better than rock salt. Some of my neighbors use this product and they say it works great so I thought I would share this with anyone looking to help keep the snow off the driveway and safer to walk on.

Hi. I use rock salt on our patio and driveways. Sometimes if I run out of rock salt, I will use regular Morton salt that you use to cook with and it seems to melt the ice away quickly also. Have you ever tried using household salt to melt the ice or snow?

Hi. Hope you are having a great day. I am getting ready to go put some of this stuff on my driveway for this evenings messy weather. :-) I have not tried rock salt or household salt. I will have to try that as well. Thank you for the suggestions. :-)

Well, we are getting the snow that you will be getting tomorrow. :) And funny...this snow can be swept with a push broom! hahaha I couldn't get my partner to get anything to melt the snow...so I and my daughter went out with snow shovel and push broom to get the clearing done. But once we finished, it started back up again. grrrrr ha ha So, I guess I know what I will be doing tomorrow. LOL

I still will shovel snow but this ice melter that I got will help the ground from getting icy which is the main concern. Sometimes I have a hard time maintaining my balance on black ice so this should prevent the icing and help me from not falling.

I like to us the good ole fashioned rock salt..I think that's what you call it. I do keep kitty litter handy for emergencies ..it does the trick and is much cheaper:) Have you ever tried kitty litter??

i have not tried kitty litter but I will keep that in mind and write that down for future use should my new method not work very well. Supposedly this product that I got is supposed to work even better than rock salt so we shall see.

We have not had much snow either but now all of a sudden we are having snow flurries pretty regularly and it is just a matter of time before we get dumped on with a lot of snow.

Thanks for the suggestions. We usually only worry about the small area in front of our door. The driveway is very small and doesn't usually get icy. I too worry about the animals but nowadays they are making stuff that is safe for them. Most of the time I just use regular table salt. This product might be a good idea for my boyfriends aunt who lives right nextdoor. She has a bigger driveway and she doesn't get around very well. But she is always going someplace.lol. We worry that she may fall. I will suggest this to her. Thanks again.

You are very welcome as it is great to hear other suggestions as well so we can protect ourselves when possible and avoid injuries due to icy roads and driveways. I will also be helping my neighbor as well as this is a big concern for her.

We dont use products on our drive way to melt the snow. My husband shovels it out. We have a puppy and cats that go outside so we dont want the salt or other products to hurt their feet and make them tender..

It would be harmful to animals that walk around on the driveway. I shovel my driveway as well but will try this product on my driveway to keep it from icing up so I do not slip and fall and get hurt. I am also going to do this for my neighbor and friend since she worries a lot about balancing on the ice in front of her home so I will be helping her out too.

I have not heard of that before. I will try it out sometimes. It sounds like it is better than the rock salt one. Thanks for sharing this.

It does work better than rock salt as it has kept the snow off my driveway very well. We had a storm the other day and when I came home, there was no snow on my driveway to shovel. I feel much safer walking around when it is snowy and icy.
