guess what? i live in a tropical country and have never been to a place where it snows... this might be something taken for granted by those who live in places where it snows frequently, it even be something that you'd laugh at, nevertheless, please indulge me ;-)

I'd have to agree with everyone else who has responded so far. Snow is beautiful and there's just something quiet and magical about it. Life slows down a bit when you get a heavy snowfall. People tend to stay home and spend time with their families, raid their cabinets and make home-cooked meals, actually get out and play in the yards they worked so hard to afford but never get to enjoy. In city areas, neighbors wander to local restaurants and pubs and enjoy the beauty of snowfall under streetlamps. Some snow is soft and gentle to the touch, and almost tickles when it hits your face. In my area, we get a lot of snow that turns to freezing rain as temps warm up. That kind of snow isn't as much fun. It's funny, I don't mind standing outside in a snowfall even though I hate getting caught in the rain, even though the end result of both when I get indoors is that I'm all wet! Snow has its downsides, though. The roads can be hazardous and drivers, especially those in areas where it snows but not often, get nervous and cause accidents. A fresh blanket of snow on the ground looks like a crystal winter wonderland. Snow that sticks around for a few days gets dirty as cars and pedestrians trek over it, and things start looking a little slushy, muddy and bleak. In spite of that, I love a good winter snowfall, and get sad when I winter goes by that I don't see one!

this year is my first snow experience also since i came from a tropical country also. mild snow falling is like a dandruff as me & my husband was waiting & observing it outside with our dark colored jackets then will just melt easily like soft ice shave. flaky heavy snow falls like a feather then as it accumulated on the ground then we make balls its like super fine ice shavings for the tropical cold dessert HALO-HALO ( ice shavings with milk & fresh fruits ) as you walk over the white ground it's fun hearing & feeling the crunchiness on our step - just be very careful also to prevent from sliding or falling down. fun is all around while making snow balls & throwing games ; making snowman & angel snow ground.

snowflake - every single snowflake is different
Oh - what a wonderful question! I adore snow, - it is magical. Quiet, peaceful, gentle, and can transform even the plainest scenery into something beautiful and exquisite. Did you know that every single snowflake is different from the others, - there are never two the same? Quite incredible. Snow is soft and gentle, like fairies dancing, and I love to watch my cats in the garden playing, and chasing the snowflakes as they fall. Later it can freeze over and become very hard and almost "crunchy". I am glad that we have more snow forecast for next week where I live. It makes me feel like a child again! I hope you can experience it too someday.

I love snow. I love to watch it fall. I won't drive in it but it is very pretty. We haven't had much yet this year. I guess its because of global warming but I hope we get a big storm before the winter is over.

It's hard to describe how snow feels. Imagine millions of tiny feathers, each one cold and wet, they swirl around, falling gently through the air and when you catch them they melt. There is always a sense of *quiet* when it snows, the clouds are heavy and grey and the air is still. It is cold, sometimes very cold, but snow falls and settles on the ground, covering the world in a blanket of white that crunches underfoot.

This is a really good explination of how snow feels. I live in Michigan and it snows for at least half the year. It usually starts anywhere from Oct. - Dec. and then stays anywhere from April to into May. Right now here where I live we have about a foot in a half to two feet of snow out. The temps have been averaging at about -2 over night, and in the upper teens during the day. It is normal and people around here are used to it. When it hits near 30 you can see people wearing shorts and dresses again. today it hit about 26 and I was wearing my fall jacket. Sometimes when the wind blows, and the snow is here the chill factor can be way below 0 and make it very cold. Pipes freezing is a big thing this time of year. But that is a small down fall to a wonderful season.

Snow in Dallas, Texas 17th Jan '06 - Snow in Dallas, Texas 17th Jan '06. Awesome!
I understand how you feel because I had the same question before I visited a place where it snowed. I come from a tropical country too and no snow whatsoever and I was crazy to see some! And believe me, it is awesome! My hubby took me to Denver colorado..where it snows like crazy and we went there on my b'day ..so it was fabulous! It felt like as though I was in a whole new world altogether..I just cna't describe it. I knoe for people where it snows regularly its a pain but it's good to just visit such places. We went snow mobiling, skiing and snow tubing..the best time of my life:) We stay in Texas and it doesn't snow here either..but I guess since I was wishing so much for snow, it snowed here too on 2 different days..yippeee...finally my snow wish is fulfilled. I've seen enough snow to last me a lifetime..hehe!

It would appear I'm a little late in answering this discussion, but I wanted to add my remarks as well. Although it is beautiful to look at, snow can be really crappy too. It can makes the roads incredibly dangerous and it sucks having to shovel all the time. But it's great fun to play in as well...sledding is a blast and I love making snowmen and snowforts with my children. If I could mail you some, I would, lol

If you were to shave ice 100 times so that it wouldn't stick together then you might be able to understand it. That's what it reminds me of. You can pick it up and my daughter says it actually feels like dust. Personally, being from FL it's just cold!!!!!

Hi From my point of view, I would swop with you any day!! I love the Sun!! SNOW !! BBBBBbbrrrrggggggg COLD!! Do you know what "Confetti" is?? It is the stuff we throw at married couples when they get married. Get hold of some, throw it in the air, and watch it fall to the ground slowly!"! Imagine this, but ALL WHITE and FREEZING COLD! Imagine LOTS of it, and it piles up on top of each other, so that in the end it is about 2 or 3 feet thick!! Then put your hands in it!! Bearing in mind it is like putting your hand in the Freezer!! That is snow!

I will swap you for the tropical climate, for the rain daily and the snow 10 times a year. I would love it to be warm all the time so i could get a tan. snow is cold very cold, think of ice that is what it feels like putting your hand in a freezer the stuff you pull from the side of it.

Well here in sweden we have plenty of snow right now. There are many kinds of snow, when it is really cold it's rather hard and you can see the ice-crystals on top. When it's warmer, about 0 degrees Celsius it is more just plain white and formable, that way you can make snowballs and such. It's obviously cold but it usually melts if you pick it up in your hand, well what more can I say.
