I have had one, and it failed, resealed itself. I ended up with an apicoectomey. That is where they cut through the side of your gum, through the bone and deal with the bad roots, that they did not get with the root canal.

I'm pretty scared to go to a dentist, period. And I have also heard that root canals are quite painful. I hope to goodness that I never have to go through one. I really have not kept the best care of my teeth, either, so I suppose that it could happen. But I would really prefer to stay away from the dentist's office if at all possible! ^_^

I have been there, done that, and also had an apicoectomy, because the root canal had not gotten all of the diseased roots, and it had sealed itself up,five years later it got infected, so the oral surgeon went in through the side of my gum and cut out the rest of the root and cleaned out the infection. I have thousands of dollars of work in my mouth that I could have avoided, if I had taken care of the little problems before they got big. My usual response to going to the dentist is to relax and fall asleep.
