Fill your freezer with low cost meals.

Does anyone else do this? I used to spend one day cooking like 25 meals to put in my freezer. It would make a huge mess and I would be exausted but it was only one day a month. Now I do it like two or three times a month and I love it! We only do ur shopping once a month with an occasional 5$ trip for milk. When I make dinner I make 5 or so of them and I have a stock pile in my garage freezer. I buy all the stuff in bulk so it is super inexpensive and I put it in aluminum pans or ziplock bags. I never have to wonder what to make for dinner. We go to the freezer and there is always something waiting. Finaly one step closer to freedom. As and added perk we have lowered our food budget down to under 200$ a month and that is including diapers, wipes, cleaning supplies and other necessities.

- Quick apology- I accidentaly started this discussion twice- Im not trying to cheat. It is always hard to get started. It is a lot cheaper in the long run but we started small. When I would buy meat for spaghetti I would buy the family pack and make 2 meals at once with it. It all went from there. At first I was just trying to make my meals go further, now we are hooked. It is always easier to start with baby steps.

I use to make a few meals in advance when I lived on my own, but now I'm back at my moms and have no say in it! It was much easer to do it that way as I was a student and working full time. Also buying in bulk is much much cheeper then buying a little at a time. I know I saved tons of money that way.

I wish I could move back into my mothers. Id love to get rid of some of these bills. I think that we would kill eachother after a while though. We each think we know the best thing for me in life.

Ack, I hated when my family did this. Plus the food did not taste the same, I love cooking, and I willing to spend more money on a fresh made meal then something that has been frozen all month.

We didnt notice much of a difference but I admire you for being able to make meals every night. I run out of energy from my day and sometimes I have nothing left. I could learn a lot from you.

When I actually start making enough money to put some aside for savings one of my first purchases is going to be an apartment size freezer. Right now I'm working with just the little one on the top of my fridge and it doesn't hold all that much. A friend of mine and I were just discussing earlier that when we both get our freezers we are going to get a group of us girls together once a month or so to do a community kitchen type of idea. Save money for everyone.

I think getting a group together is a great way to save even more money. I love to buy things in bulk but sometimes it is over whelming to have a ton og somethings. Getting a group together and splitting the cost gives you the advantage of bulk purchacing with out the tonz of 1 thing. I am excited for you. Let me know how it turns out.
