What has life taught you?

True Wealth - This is one of my favorites. I'm still not sure why I drew it, but it made a point then, and now.

I like to ask the easy questions, and we have a lot of philosophically minded people on myLot. What are the things that you’ve learned that really made a difference to how you live, and how you relate to the world and other people? How did you learn these lessons? How did they help?

I've learnt a lot from life and that too only in the past two years. For as long as I can remember I had been a selfish person and hardly thought about what others felt. I got married and came to the US..away from my home land and life taught me some valuable lessons here. I strongle beleive in "What goes around comes around"..and that's exactly what happened to me here. My hubby is a bit of a selfish person himself and I realised I'm getting back what I had done in the past. It made me realise how much I had troubled others with my sselfish acts. One fine day it suddenly dawned on me and I was very ashamed. Since then I've been a much better person. By selfish, I mean in small things around the house itself. This is one characterristic of mine which was beyond me! I've also learnt to give and appreciate. There was a time when I expected people to appreciate me but never did so myself. I understood unless you give, you won't get. I'm glad my eyes have finally opened and I'm able to lead a better life now. It's sad it took me a good 23 years to realise it!!

Yeah, it's interesting to watch yourself growing up, and look back. Important lessons, and there are those who never seem to learn them. Some of the nicest people I've ever met were totally selfless, always helping, and prepared to go well out of their way to do it.

I have this beautiful quote from somewhere, let me share it with you. "Love Life, be grateful for it always. And show your gratitude by not shying away from it's challenges. Always try to live beyond your capacities, and you'll find your capacities greater than you've ever dreamed of." I find this quote very meaningful, and I just think of it whenever I had big problems.

That ought to be taught in schools to this poor generation of kids copping the endless deficiencies of this society. I think they think it's them, that they're not measuring up. A bit of personal encouragement and the idea of going beyond the obstacle course would really help.

This topic is quite serious huh..LOL..well im 30years old and a single mom..so i have been through a lot of things that really changed my outlook in life..I used to think that i could just take life for granted..that i shouldnt worry about anything, even if i had a kid already i continued to be easy going and just rely on my mom...i wasnt that focused on being a mom to my daughter when she was young, then she turned 5 and then now shes 7..and when i watch videos of her when she was young,i want to cry because i missed a lot of her growing up years because i was an immature woman before back then..Now i learned that we should treasure every day of our lives because time passes us by so fast that sometimes people who are important to us grow up,change and go to different paths in life, paths that are different from our path..that when they do that,we could never go back and cherish those times that we could have treasured back then..so life taught me to stop, look around and listen to what really is important to us and cherish everyday of our lives just as if it was our last...
