After the city deciding they would not let it open, even after they had already asked what needed to be done and being told, "nothing", it opened. Thursday, they got he ok, they have a time period to get it up to code. Enough residents showed up at a city counsel meeting to stand behind him and they decided to give him the ok and work with him to make sure that they were going to do the improvements. I am glad because yesterday it was high of 12 and 30 degree wind chill. It is going to stay this way for the next week. I'm sure we would have had alot of people not making it through this. I am so happy!! I hope it works out for them. People need some help sometimes and it doesn't mean they are bad people.

I'm very glad it opened myself. I prayed to God over and over again to let this happen to help these poor people. This guy has his heart in the right place and will be rewarded in heaven. I'm glad the city stood behind him. People need to get together in order to help others instead of only thinking about themselves. Thank you for letting me know my prayers were answered once again. You just made my day.

We will see how many problems the city gives him. It is a temporary permit for now. I figure they will find something to shut him down. He is not giving them a place to live, he is putting them out every morning to find a job. After they get a job, he is letting them stay and helping them find an apartment they will be able to afford. They will have a bed, a shower, some clothes, and I am sure a meal. In the afteroon the church next door serves a meal, so they can eat there too.

That was wonderful to hear that the shelter was able to open. Nobody should be out on the streets period really but even more so when it is extremely cold out like it has been lately. I would like to see more shelters open in all the states to help keep people warm and safe. You are right that not all homeless people are bad people.

We had one council member that his only concern was that they would have too many calls to the police to take care of things there. I don't get it. If they are sleeping in the post office and under bridges, it looks like if they were going to cause trouble, they would have already, just to live!!!

That is wonderful news!!! I am glad that the city is going to work with him. There are many who will benefit from the opening of the facility and it was a wise choice for the counsel members to allow the opening.

I am so glad that the town helped to stand up for the man and his cause! Good for him, the town, and those people that he is helping! Thanks again for the update. It is always nice to hear the happy ending of a sad story!

I'm so glad to here that. I know in another city they were trying to get a homeless shelter and the residents in the area wouldn't let them. I have never been so angry. They were worried that something would happen to their kids. Don't people get it. Homeless people are human to. They had homes, jobs, and families before they fell on hard times. It could happen to anyone. I'm so glad your city is doing the right thing.

Well golly gee did somebody figure out that it's more dangerous to be sleeping outside in sub-freezing temperatures than it is to sleep indoors without a fire escape? Thank goodness they came to their senses. GREAT news. Thanks for the update.

I think that it's wonderful that the counsel has not only seen the need for the shelter, but has also heard the voice of the people in support of the shelter. The heat went out in our van the other night with tempatures said to be at -40 with wind chill and I kept thinking that we were so blessed to have a warm house to go to. I can't imagine what it would be like to not have a warm place to go! I hope that you are also able to raise money for the other changes that were needed, like the sprinklers and other safety features.

It is great that your community is willing to show enough support to get the city to give a variance. I hope they help with the upgrades that are necessary in order to be up to code. Hooray for community.
