As I pointed out on that discussion, there are several legal benefits to being married. Without being married I couldn't have added my wife to my insurance. Check the difference between two individual insurance policies aginst a family plan, its a big savings. There's also tax breaks & reduced car insurance costs. It prevents much of the debating over the beneficiary of your will. It makes it easier to get a home loan , as they consider both of you and your incomes instead of just one of you. The paper dosen't tell them that they love each other, it legalizes the union.

people get married because they wanted to face and give vows each other in front of the altar. Marriage is not just a piece of paper, it is very important for couples espicially for religous people. Couples wanted their married to be bound with Christ . Marriage ceremony are also for legal purposes. You can't declare yourself if you don't that paper.

I've always wondered the same thing. Two people could live together, have children, and support each other all without a marriage certificate. Some people do it for religious beliefs, but still. You don't *need* it.
