I have 256 RAM and want to upgrade. How do I do that? I have a Dell Dimension 1100. I don't want to contact Dell, I need to do it as inexpensively as possible. I do know that I want to go to 1G of RAM. Any suggestions?

its good if you go to ebay and find some ram search for one gb ram with ddr2 i meant according to your computer configuration if you are using a old computer then ddr2 wont be supported by your system.so from ebay buy a new one and install it and you might have 2 slots vacant i think,so go for one gb ram rather than less than that,if you have enough bugs with you.

Fist you need to check whether your mother board has got an extra slot to put another RAM also the total memory supported by the MB. Then you will need the know the clock speed of the present installed RAm. Then you can go ahead and buy a RAM according to your needs.

It is very easy and inexpensive to do. We add our own Ram to every computer we have. First check to see how many slots is in your computer. I dont know about Dell but every HP that I have had has been upgradable. Once you determine That their are slots, you know you can upgrade. You need to purchase ram in the same size that you now have and just put that in the empty slot. There are 2 kinds of Rams. you need to determine which your computer has. Once you put the Ram in the slot. Put your computer back together and when you turn it on, it will pick up on the fact that you have more ram added. Dell may have a Q&A on their site to tellyou how to do this. Like I said I have a HP. Hope this helps.

The motherboard need to accept only selected value of ram .It is of two type in DDR .One is DDR400 and other is of DDR333 .So please check your 256 ram or initial ram .If then you can upgrade ram to the desired memory of same value .

Check out your computer manuals for the motherboard you have, i dont know the exact specs of this system but you can directly buy ram from any computer vendor. what you need to look out for is the ram speed of your current ram card. or better still buy a single 1gig card and sell the older one. No need to contact dell for ram upgrade as theirs is costlier

Check what type of RAM now you have and Buy Similar type. Don't open PC cabin if you are First time. Each part is expensive and even small damage will cause you to buy new one. So ask help from any of your Friend having knowledge in PC Hardware.

Don't know how old your Dell is. If it is under warranty now and you add or alther anything, even opening the case can void your warranty. Replacing ram is easy. Open casremove old ram[undo small latch holding it in place, carefully lift out]replace with new[carefully push into slot-only goes one way-make sure it is seated]reclasp clampclose case. Make sure the ram you buy is compatible.

first, you should make sure your ram is ddr or ddr2, I think yours is ddr, then, you should know how much your pc's maximal capability! if it can't accept 1G, so ,youcan't update for 1G of ram
