Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Hypnotherapy

I just started seeing a new therapy that specializes in Hypnotherapy. Has anyone tried it? She stated that unlike the things you see on TV you are completely aware and basically it is letting your conscience set aside so that she can communicate directly with your subconscience. If anyone has any experience in this I would appreciate some advice. She stated that it would take a few sessions before we became comfortable with one another before she would try it. Also, that some people couldn't let go and trust, so it might not work for me. If I do try it what could I do to help make sure it works?

hi gracie, a plus from me for starting this discussion. Hypnosis certainly works if you let it happen. What is important is that you want it to happen, you remain in control at all times and if you want it not to work then it wont, it is all there within you, it is your subconscious the therapist will be in conversation with. No one can make you do anything under hypnosis they can only work with what is already there. If you want it to work for you, it will. blessed be hope this helps please post again and let us all know how you get on

Thank you, I will definitely keep you updated. I truly want this to work. I am about at the end of my rope. My last therapist actually said "I just don't know what else to do with you" That was discouraging. This new therapist gives me hope if nothing else.

Oh I used to use hypnotherapy and study it too. Yes I did try it, oh yes it is nothing like you see on the television, at all, yes this is exactly right what the hypnotherapist has told you. If you suffer with real deep problems it is one of the best things to overcome any thing that really is in your subconscience and believe me you will feel a 100% better.

Thank you. It is good to know that she is telling me the truth perhaps that will help with the trust issues also.

I have done hypnotherapy and I have trouble letting go and trusting, but you find that it works for you even if you don't think it is working. It's not like youre going to lose consciousness and be hypnotized but if the therapist is good she talks to skip over all your preconceived notions and so speaks directly to your unconscious. You won't notice between one day and the next if it's helped or not but you will notice after a few months of working on a specific problem that it is better. However, I also like Cognitive therapy so if you can do both, that's ideal. Good Luck.

Thanks, she does both. I also have trust issues so it is good to know that it may work even if I cant let go completely.

For hypnosis to be effective, you need to have a desire to get the results from it. You also need to be willing and trust the person you are working with. I have been a hypnotherapist for 17 years and I have never seen a person who wanted to be hypnotized who could not be. I suggest that you practice relaxation techniques, such as slow breathing, relaxing each part of your body until you get that "heavy" feeling. Hypnosis doesn't necessarily have to have a "feeling" for it to work. Some people go very deeply into a sleep-like state and remember very little about the session, while some just get relaxed state and hear every word. Everyone is different. There are very few people that cannot be hypnotized I think that the most important thing is that you know that you will not be surrendering your will to the therapist. You subconscious is always aware and will not allow you to accept a suggestion that is not within the boundaries of your values and your personality. So there is no need for fear. Hypnotherapy, like cognitive behavioral therapy, is a therapeutic tool. It is not a magic wand (although the results can seem like it is). It takes time and patience. Sometimes great results happen in one session, sometimes it takes longer. The important thing is to stick with it and give it time to work.
