Do You Make Your Own Granola?

I love granola. It is one of those snacks that you can enjoy anytime of year. It is great for brown bagging your lunch, backpacking, hiking, hunting or just to munch on while watching TV. I have found that it is expensive to purchase but so easy to make and the best thing is that you can add whatever you like and eleminate the things you dont. It is a win - win recipe. This recipe makes 2 quarts. You can add other things that you like and ulter it to your family's taste. Hope you enjoy it. Granola 6 cups rolled oats 1/4 cup sunflower seeds or your favorite nuts 1/2 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup raisins or other dried fruit 1 cup coconut 1 cup peanuts, halfed 1/2 cups sesame seeds Mix all ingredients except raisins or other dried fruit. Stir in and coat throughly with 1/2 cup oil (I use olive oil) 1/3 cup honey (if you use local it is good for allergies) 2 teaspoons vanilla Spread on cookie sheet and bake at 350 for about 25 minutes. Add raisins or other dried fruit and bake 5 more minutes. Cool and enjoy

Add one more recipe that I have to get busy and try. I used to make granola quite often. It is too expensive when you buy it, but it makes a wonderful add in to yogurt sundaes, and on top of other cereals, and stirred into pudding. Have you ever put flax seed in your granola? I think I may. Wal Mart has milled flax seed at a very reasonable price with the various flours in their baking aisle. In the vitamin aisle they cost like gold (Ha ha). See ya in the kitchen.

My husband has tried to make granola many times. His problem is that it doesn't stick together in clumps. It's still good, and he always puts flax seed in there. It's so good for you!

Thank you villageanne for the receipe. As I go hiking every weekend, this certainly will brting a lot of enjoyment. I don't like brown sugar or any sugar can I omit that ingredient? or it's a must have?

That is the beauty of making it homemade, you can eleminate anything you want and add anything you want. The recipe is just a starting point and the sugars does add some extra taste to it.

great recipe. I was just thinking about homemade granola. My mother gave me a huge container of oatmeal and I have always plenty of raisins and other dried fruits and nuts.

Thanks, I'll try this. I love granola but the store-bought type is too expensive and often has more sugar and fat than I want. So it's great to have a recipe andput in less of the things I want less of. Looks pretty easy to make, too. Thanks!

It just amazes me how much the commercial companies make from any prepared foods. It is not that expensive to make. People have just gotten away from makining their own and the companies are getting rich off us.

Thanks for having this recipe. Am afraid that mine was lost in my housefire. We like to take this in the event we get stranded in the snow. Or even on long trips. Hubby once had to stay in town during heavy snows and this helped him since dinner was hard to come by. Thankfully I had packed him a bag with clothing too.

My wife makes granola for us and man it stinks when she is preparing. Although later it takes really good and I eat it until my jaw muscles can't move anymore. I will give her your recipe and see if that is what she does.

Ohhhh, this sounds luscious! My hubby, kids and I love granola but it is so expensive to buy, and often is loaded with too much sugar! This sounds very easy to make...so easy in fact that I might have my teenage son do the honors!

I love granolas as well but have never tried making my own. I love eating it for snacks at home and at work. I used to take it to school all the time when I was younger. It does sound fairly simple to make and will have to try it myself. I agree that they are expensive to purchase, just like most anything else. Thank you for the recipe.

Yes, I make my own granola but sometimes I do not have any time so I get it ready to eat at a natural food center and its very good, but mines are the best granola.

Hmm, now this sounds like a good idea. My husband buys Harvest Crunch ,but I find it doesn't have much of what I like in it. I am going to try this recipe the next chance that I get . Thanks for sharing this with us .
