Is it morally acceptable to experiment on non-human animals to develop products and medicines that benefit human beings?

Its unfortunate that we test on animals but if we test on humans then you have lawsuits and complaints too. Theres no winning here. You find people who are willing to be tested lol. Its the way of the world we will always find a reason to complain. If they just stop testing well that would just go bad fast. I do think they can still treat the animals as they would a human that comes in for testing.

well, actually some would actually use medicines that cured animals from testing on other animals and people, it's like a win-win situation cause you found a cure for both man and animal, animals would also benefit from the experiments..

good point! i think we should think of it as a win - win situation since they are testing it to cure diseases not only for humans but for animals as well...

It is not morally acceptable for me to experiment on animals to benefit the humans..Animals are alive and they get hurt too...I hope the scientists out there can find another way to develop things without sacrificing the lives of animals.

i agree... i hope that they can find alternatives in developing medicines for us without sacrificing human or animal life...

I am totally against using animals for experimentation and/or for products, what right to we have they have feeling too and have a will to live, I have belonged to many animals societies and I have seen some horrific photos of what they do to animals some with no pain relief for them...I always put myself in others positions even animals, my heart bleeds for them...

i also agree with you but like what the other poster said we need the animals to test medicines since we cant sacrifice human life that easily...

Of course! We use animals for food and harness them for labor. Of course their pain should be minimized whenever possible but animal testing is necessary to benefit science which saves human lives. I would not be adverse to making it illegal to use them for things like cosmetic testing but medical testing is where I'd draw the line.

Testing anything on animals is horrific and sickening. The poor things are locked up, tortured, and killed. The way I feel about it is if it's something you wouldn't do to a person you shouldn't do it to an animal!

yes i got your point. But science needs to do this in order to give us cures in different health problems and the like. So do you think that lab experiments with animals should be totally banned or stopped?

Damn, aiguy got here first and basically nailed it. Animal testings in the medical field are a necessity and are completely justified. Animal testing involving cosmetics is a more delicate matter, where more moral judgements can be made - I lean towards preferably avoiding it, but it isn't something that outrages me.

yeah... i think if they just going to do animal testing just cosmetic purposes they should test it to those people who are too addicted in making themselves beautiful...

I do not think animals should be tested to benefit humans. Pets breath like humans and should not be tested. I have a chronic illness and I would not even allow a pet to be tested to find a cure for me.

I don't think the results from animal testing are accurate enough to even try and justify it. if penicillin had been first tested on guinea pigs, we'd be without that medical advancement, as it kills them. you get different medical results from rats to mice. so as they are so similar, how can we hope to get accurate results for human biology from animal testing. what particularly angers me is that different companies carry out the same tests on different batches of animals, doubling the suffering, rather than being legally required to share the results of that testing with a central database, to prevent the same processes being carried out again. no, I don't agree with it. more research should be ploughed into the alternatives, as the current system is appalling, innacurate and cruel.

it is murder. people assume they are more precious than animals, that their live is of more importance than that of other beings. It says in the bible Thou shalt not kill, there are not exceptions. God didn't say, oh but it's okay to kill animals, oh and it's okay to torture them in the name of science. All life is precious, not just human life.

yup, hahaha, i think so.. it would help us cure a lot of sickness and would help other animals find cure for their sickness..
