What do you believe?with a billion stars and countless solar system, what are the chance that we are indeed alone in the universe?

Wrong question ... the probability is that we are not alone. The correct question is "Are we close enough to another inhabited solar system for communication to be meaningful" ... even this assumes that there can be "meaningful" interstellar communication.

Statistics are in huge favor of the idea of extraterrestrial life. Like you said, there is countless space and planets...some smart guys did the math. But even if there is some other life out there, it'd be so many light years away that we'd never encounter them.

I think most of the people on earth believe that there are really an extra terrestials living out there, seeing us. But how I wish they will be visible to everyone. So that this mystery that going on many years ago would be stopped. It's even nicer if our generation would be the one to prove that they are really existing.

Have you ever heard of the SETI Institute? SETI stands for Search for Extra Terrestrial Life, they are a very serious and rational project searching for possible signs of intelligent life out there. In their website, you can find more information about the mathematical analysis of the likelihood of the existance of life in our galaxy. It is quite interesting, in fact. And you don't really have to be a math genius to know that if the chance for life existing is greater than 0, and the amount of possible locations for life to develop in the universe is unimaginably large, the natural conclusion is that there *is* life in other parts of the universe. Whether we will one day manage to find it, on the other hand, is far less certain.
