The Evolution of a Mylotian

For my 200th post, i would like to look back at my mylot life and compare it to what i am now. when i started here in mylot, i was money oriented. i was very concerned about how much i earn and when my earnings were lower than what i expected, i was easily pissed. man, i responded to every discussion in the top list, even if it didnt interest me at all. and i did everything i could to get referrals (i failed miserably). all my mylot activity was for the sole purpose of earning. then when i reached almost a hundred posts, i said to myself, "this isnt going to work". i saw some posts saying that mylot isnt really for earning, it's for interaction and discussion, all for the sake of fun and world connection. "blah blah" i said, "that's all a bunch of bovine excrement!" everyone here's after the money! or are they? that's when i started to be very selective about the discussions that i respond to. and after a while my earnings did rise! turns out my non-greediness promoted better material and hence, more money! so now, i choose what i write and i make sure that they count! so, how was your mylot evolution?

I have to be honest, I've kinda gone in the opposite direction. It has never been about the money for me as I can't make enough to have it really be important, but I have become a little jaded here recently. It's the same discussuions over an over and I find my responses becoming shorter and I'm also not here as often or responding as often. It may be time to take a break or just get better at finding those all too elusive interesting discussions.

...yah, when that happens I like to check out my specific interests.. then the "related links" at the bottom... or a mylot search on extraterrestrials, or outlandish conspiracies or something... Besides where else can I come and discuss those two socially tabu subjects, politics and religion? I just love to gab.. I've realized it doesn't even really matter if anyone is listening.. just gab, gab, gab.. but then I've always been like that.. filled notebooks with words.. words.. ideas.. more words... Imagine how interesting it got when I discovered the web and now can listen to other people's ideas and words too..

I'm right there with you! Actually, this is only my second day, but even yesterday I could tell that it wasn't about money anymore. It's just nice to have a place where you can talk about anything with anybody and everybody. So many different views too! Don't get me wrong, the money helps keep me coming, but that's not why I'm here!

Your thread title juxtaposed with your avatar just made my day.In answer to your question, i just wanted to earn some change for yakking and giving advice if I could, and maybe learn some stuff from actual people, who actually knew things from experience, and whoa get some change for that too. I don't know if I have evolved, I think I've held steady.Oh , and congrats!

at first, you'll be so into the money. but later on, when you love the site already, you'll love more the knowledge you get from people here. but it's always natural. i once, too was for the earnings i get from this site. from later on, i developed and love to focus more in discussions rather than the earnings. now, earnings is just a bonus for me for the knowledge and friends i gain from this site. and it's always a great thing to have a bonus in return!

It was basicaly the same for me, I found that I ahve some strong pinions about what others were writing about and I found that it raly the quality of your mylot time rather than your quantity. I see people saying that they made a hundred posts yeaterday why didnt they make more money, well I know that I post far less than that but I take the time to make intelegent conversation and I make far more than they are complaining about. If mylot were to quit paying I would still be here. I love all the advice and culture I get here and couldnt ask for a better group of friends. Good luck in this great adventure and Remember its for fun !

I guess I've evolved too, in the ten or so days that I've been here. It became clear very early that if it was just about money I might as well leave. I don't know very many people, and don't know anybody that I would try to use as a referral, so referrals are pretty much out for me. I love to analyze what's going on, where ever I am, and mylot is a fascinating place to analyse. I examine the theories about how much mylot pays, what's worth doing here, moneywise, and a lot of other stuff. By paying attention to what seems to work best, I've increased my per-post pay from barely over a penny to almost two cents. I'll never get rich here, but it's fun to tweak my participation and find out what works and what doesn't. Oh, and I've found people I enjoy having discussions with, too. So, aside from the money, I think I probably get a bit more out of this site than a lot of people do.

I hope that most people change from being here just for the money, and good for you in doing so. Really, it's not that posting on discussions is going to make you rich anyway. It might buy you a dinner out at the end of the month. My intention is to be here to meet new people and help them if and where I can :) by offering advice, opinions or experience that someone else may not have. All the best to you.

Not very different from your evolution:) Honestly I joined for the money, though I had no idea how I would get paid! It took me a week or two to figure out what's in and what's not here on myLot. In my desperation I've started some 'dud' topics..lol! But that was then, the moment I realised there is more to myLot than just money, I stopped counting the cents. Since then, the creative power has been unleashed and has been at its best. I love to read and write, and I'm thoroughly enjoying myself here. I've made some really good friends and it is still beyond me to understand how strangers can mean so much..we don't even know their real names! :) I'm a total addict now and find it hard to log off at the end of the day. I'm not living off the income on myLot so whatever comes my way is appreciated. I've morphed from a dull bored person to a creative thinker. Hail Mylot!

I'm with you 100% on this one! For me it has never been about the money - if it was I'd stay at work an extra 10 minutes a day and save wearing my fingers out typing. The amazing thing is though, as you say, if you come here to chat and discuss things properly, and forget about the money, then you do actually earn more. BTW - Congrats on reaching 200. Hopefully I'm there soon!

I came because I love discussions, but thought it would be nice to get paid for giving advice, asking questions and communicating with people. I'm still here because I love the discussions, I love chatting and giving my opinion, and the money is an extra added benefit!

When arriving here in Mylot I learned as much as I could. Once I rknew what the payout threshold was and what certain number of posts brought I formulated a goal. There were two parts. The first was to reach a minimum payout. Today, I have reached that goal. The second part was to reach at minimum the 500 post mark. I am almost there and I will continue until this goals has been met. Now, all along I have been saying that would abandon this effort after my goals were met. I think this may be harder now than what I recently had accepted. So, to really summarize, I see your evolution not only in myself but in other mylotters as well. Generally, you see the burn out in those focused solely on the money, and I haven't been here for even two weeks.

A wiseman once told me that you should always freely give and you will get back more then you ever gave. I think it's true but sometimes I have trouble putting it into practice and I do get money motivated. I have 8 refferals and I've been on lesss then a week, but I've treid to welcome each new person and thank them for siging up. I hope that they do get use for it beyond the change they can make here.

Is that so? Then if yes, who from the website mods take care of reading so many threads to manage to give a grade of 1, 2 3, 4, 50% rating that will correspond to your earnings? I dont think that its logical for the mods here to read all the threads and yet evaluated each of them to their own understanding..isn't that bias? the answer is preferrably YES!

I read the posts that are on the page where my post ends up... and give pluses to all the true responses.. then I always go backwards... back, back.. to the first page of the thread, read those (I'm a quick reader, a sort of half skim, half read) and plus a lot of those.. then back, back to the list.. Yes I give friends pluses, but most all other posts too.. If I get bored, there's always another feature to use.. or new one to check out..

My mylot evolution was about the same... Used to try to figure out elaborate formulas for maximum earnings.. But then I settled down, realized I've always liked discussing ever since discovering the net.. I've never been one for internet surfing, but now I have a lot of fun surfing on mylot.. If I'm in a certain mood to discuss something specific, I use the search mylot function.. I check out related links at the bottom of threads.. Like to make new friends and use "discussions my friends have started" quite a bit. So now not only do I earn a little bit for doing something I like to do and would spend alot of time doing anyway, but mylot seems to be less rowdy than some other places - less mean spirited posts.. I think it's because people are earning a bit, we're not so quick to bite off someones's head. To me that's a big plus, not that I used to go around biting off heads! But no matter how kind and gentle I was, I used to get run through the grinder every once in awhile, or let's say more often than I wanted.. :))

I came here with the intention of helping people from the very beginning and it seems that I've stuck to it pretty much... The money will probably come in handy when I get it ( I've set my payout at $100.00) but it's really secondary to my resource work... and I'm enjoying myself much more, now that money isn't the only reason I have to write for... I'd like to think that it's the "Do what you love thing" that kicked in... Have an excellent day! You'll be at 500 before you know it! :)

I think mine was similar to yours bertus. When I first joined myLot , I used to respond to crappy discussions which I had no idea of and ended up giving stupid replies. I was strongly concerned with the quantity or the numbe rof posts I did rather than the quality and the research I now put into each post and its definitely worth it. My first day here I made 58 posts and got only 66 cents , and in a few days I think I had made 20 posts for which I 60 cents , that was the time when I was convinced that myLot only pays for quality and pays upto 3 or even 4 cents for a good quality post. So , I think my myLot evolution was pretty much in shape and in the right direction.

Unfortunately, since English is not my native language I can't write as good as some people here. I try my best to write quality material and I try to post messages that have something of value in them. Also I try not to look at my earnings, If I do get to 10$ I'll request payment, and if I don't, so be it.

Evolution..? When I post, I post because I have something to say. When there is a topic which I'm not interested in at all. I don't respond to it. Still I'll use this to pay for RO ^^

A majority of people start off like you do. I had already adjusted myself to others forums before so I simply came here for further discussion. Of course the money is part of what persuaded me to come here but active discussions are also fun to be a part of. In other forums it tends to take a while for interesting topics to appear, here I can just search one up.
