I have a had a grapefruit everyday for the last 5 days and I was wondering if they really help in your diet. I have heard that they help alot in weightloss but don't really have an understanding of why.
Do you know if they help & why?? Have you tried it?

I think it has something to do with the acids in grapefruit. They help disolve fatty tissue. I know several diets require grapefruit to be eaten daily. They also say that drinking a glass of water with a tablespoon of vinegar works the same.

Yes vinegar water doesn't sound good to me either. I don't like vinegar. I know some people do though so maybe it will help them.

Hey I actually found something on the same lines..take a look
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grapefruit
Scroll down for medicinal benefits..and it mentions, I quote "Grapefruit forms a core part of the "grapefruit diet", the theory being that the fruit's low glycemic index is able to help the body's metabolism burn fat." Maybe its time to go on grapefruit binge. :)

There is actually a diet that was very popular back in the 90's called the "Grapefruit Diet". It does work great for some people. It helps burn up the extra caloric acids which burns fat. A word of caution though, there are several prescription medications that have an interaction with grapefruit, and warn against eating it. Among them are many cholesterol lowering medications and high blood preasure meds.

No, they don't really help the diet very much, except that they are low in calories, and pretty high in vitamin c. People trying those so called " grapefruit " diets, usually don't succeed.
One tip I have for you is look for a book called "Nutrition for Dummies". You may know the book I am talking about, it is a book for reference, and there are many different titles, but they all end in "for dummies". I tried every diet in the book, including the grapefruit thing, with no sucess. Then one day, I picked a copy of that book up. It is easy to follow, and it worked like a breeze. My wieght loss was evident, very quickly. I not only look better, I feel much better too. And I eat more than before, so that goes to show what you put into your mouth really does make a difference.
Try picking up a copy of that book, and good luck.

I was blessed with good metabolism...Ihope that I can help you with this...
grapefruit really helps to lose weight...it contains lots of fiber and vitamin C...vitamin C helps minimize varicose veins...but it is advisable to have 3-4 servings of it everyday...

I really am not sure if it works. I am told that there is something within the citrus breaks down the fat in the food you eat and in your body. Same as with eating lime and lemons I heard the same thing and they also say it is good to sprinkle some of the juice of a lemon/lime over your food to break down the fat in it as well.
I think it may be true, but I think that it does this in such a small quanitity that it is not like you will see immediate results.
I guess the search for the truth continues....
