As most of you know my hubby had a tripple heart bypass in August and he now has to possibly have more surgery on his legs ans he has bad circulation and is getting severe pain on walking, anyway they also discovered an enlarged artery in his tummy too, The Doctor told him to walk as much as possible, As we are in Scotland the weather can be really unpredictable so we bought an exercise bike, He goes on it about 10 Min's a day, I like it too now and if we are not walking I have ago to, I usually have a go every day, My granddaughters think its OK for grandad but I think that they think I am too old lol, Hubby is 67 and I am 64, I think age is all in the mind, come on them guys and galls, please give me your thoughts and thank you all so much for taking the time xxx

Absolutely .. your own body is the best gauge of anything .. and if it helps .. I once had a very eminent osteo consultant tell me .. never do more than 70% of what you are capable of .. you will stop before doing any damage .. and won't tire any part of your body so much that it needs days of rest before it can go again .. makes good sense to me ..

Oh yes exercising is very important to our health so that when we get older we shall not receive all these health problems,. That is great that your husband has an excercise bike so he can peddle and do his excercise on his bike. I agree with you age is in the mind.

Well I think that it's great! Exercise is good for us, - it helps the circulation, and srengthens the muscles. Obviously when someone is older, especially with a history of poor health, then it is important to check with a Doctor first, but providing the experts have given your husbamd the go-ahead, I think it can only be good. It is not just for the physical health benefits, but also makes people feel more positive about themselves. Good luck to you both, and all the best for youtr husband's next surgery.

No, there is not limit to exercise. exercise makes us healthy. Proper exercise gives healthy and hygenie. Exercise is a part of work in case of a child's school life. Its included in the periodic table as it helps in the growth and stamina. Childhood improves growth of physique. It reduces fat cells, increases good respiration, improves heart beat. Freshness is assured if we do exercise.

There is no age limit to exercise. The more you exercise the more you feel younger. You will not only feel it, you will look it. The younger you start the better, But it is never too late to start and experience the benefits exercise has to offer. Just don't exercise too hard. My grandfather is 84 and he still walks every morning. My grandmother is 82 and she still goes to the market, that for her is exercise. Enjoy exercise! :)

I fully agree! There is no age limit to exercise. Think of exercise as fun and you will never feel like exercising. Exercise is what oil does to hinges. So let's all exercise regardless of age.

Exercise is good for anyone at any age. With any exercise plan you should consult with a physician first to be sure that the exercise program you want to participate in will be appropriate for your body.

Exercise is encouraged for everyone, regardless of age. There are exercise programs for seniors all over the place. The health benefits are indisputable. Just check with your doctor before getting too aggressive with it to be sure that there are no reasons not to exercise and no restrictions to the type of activity that you should do. Walking is certainly recommended for just about everyone. Look at your husband; with all of his health problems they still want him to exercise! Don't try to do to much, or else you may get hurt. If you are out of breath or hurting in any way, stop and rest. By today's standards, 64 is NOT old!! My mother is 75 and she is on her treadmill or stationary bike for 30 minutes 5 days/week, plus she does a stretching and yoga routine 3 times / week. It will keep you young!

You can exercise till the day you die. Just check with your doctor and don't overdo it. Most people will benefit from daily exercise, as it keeps them fit and healthy.

I have a heart condition and bad cirulation in my legs. I am exercising more when able, to avoid having the surgery on my legs. I get really bad cramps,in my calfs, when I walk. I am your age, so go ahead and do it. It's good for you at any age. I walk as far as I can, ride a bike and use and exercise ball. I also go up and down the stairs as much as 10 times a day. This is great for the heart my doctor tells me.

Hello there, no i do not think age should limit your ability to exercise. Exercise takes numerous forms from walking up and down the stairs, doing the housework, walking to the shop or walking the dog to something more vigourous like weights or cycling. The key for exercising at all ages is not to overdo it, a little and often is best . I would suggest that as one gets older then it may not be possible to undertake certain forms of exercise but the longer one remains active, the healthier one is. If you have had any sort of medical condition then you should speak with the doctor before starting exercise, but as long as you keep the exercise light and don't physically over exert yourself it should be a good thing.

I don't think it is every too late to do exercise. As long as you don't do too much and take your doctors advice beforehand. If you aren't sure just walk at your own pace, that is the best exercise for sure.

There is definitely no age limit to exercising as people of all ages can do some sort of exercise. As we get older we may not be able to do all the things that we did when we were younger but there are other forms of exercises for the older people. Everybody can do some type of exercise, whether it is walking, lifting weights, treadmill or anything else. I see people in their 70's and 80's out there walking around and doing exercises.

Well as you know I rehab people well into their late 90's, so I will agree that there is no real age limit to exercise. However they may be a physical limit. I am not sure why the Dr says it's all a go. Did he not give you guys any restrictions at all to follow? I would not have given it a second thought (since his cardiac rehab was like 6 months ago), but with an enlarged artery in the abdomen, I would think there would some sort of restriction as that can be serious and life-threatening. Are there any plans for surgery (AAA ~ a triple A) for this enlarged artery? I think yes you can exercise, but are you to keep his pulse rate say under 140 beats a minute? How about his blood pressure - do you have to check it before and during exercise? I would just double-check with your doctor on these questions before he starts pedaling his way across the ocean! lol

I believ if we can exercise, no matter how little, we should. I'll be 67 in six months and I still work 29 hours a week, most of these 29 hours are spent on my feet. Last year I had to stop my three weekly swims because I had cataracts removed from both eyes, now I'm counting the days until my doctor allows me to start swimming again. I agree age is in the mind but some people are luckier than others when it comes to getting old. I consider myself very lucky. Best wishes to you and your husband.

If there are no problems with any other health condition or maybe the exercises make a cure for him, that's will be ok to have it. But must be somebody that going with him, to protect and take care of him.
