I have always thought I have chronic depression but when I got on the internet I started looking at some sights about mental disorders. After a little research I'm convinced that it isn't so much depression, but Schizophrenic personality disorder. When I read the description I saw every symptom I've ever had. What I want to know is if their is anyone else who has been diagnosed/treated for ppd. I have alot of questions!

Hi PeperJane. Chronic depression is very different from Schizophrenia. It is normal for us to feel down once and a while or when something goes wrong. Major Depresive Disorder which is the correct scientific name is when you're daily life is affected in a dramatic way. For example you don't get up to go to work or school, your eating and sleeping habits change. You no longer enjoy the things you used to. There are also other milder forms of depression. It will take a long time to define all of them. Schizophrenia is a very different disorder and there are many different types: Paranoid, Disorganized, Catatonic, Undefferentiated, Residual, Schizophreniform Disorder, Schizoaffective Disorder. However, the most distintic characteristic of Schizophrenia is that the person has: DELUSIONS AND/OR HALLUCNATION. That is that they either hear or see things that are not real. And there are other diagnostic criteria also. I don't want to diagnost anybody because I'm not licensed to do so. I'm on my second year of Graduate school or Master's in mental health Counseling and I'm fascinated by the different types of personaly disorders and Psychology in general. If you feel like you're life is being affected in a great manner by any psychological issue you can see a professional who can assist you in giving you a diagnosis if there's a problem. The mental health community has advanced tremendously in the past few years and treatment for medical conditions are very good and the prognosis for many mental disorders are excellent. Good luck! Feel free to ask any more questions, I'll do my best to answer what I can. Bambo318

Your information has been helpful. I know I can't accurately diagnose my self but when I saw the definition of schizophrenic personality disorder it just seemed to explain everything. I have every symptom that was described and some of them I don't really think are symptoms of depression itself.

Well, sometimes its unavoidable that we feel depressed for the day..but for the health its not a good side, i believe in Meditation which will balance our mind and helps to be normal at situations

I'm not familiar with PPD, but I think personality disorders are often misdiagnosed or underdiagnosed as depression. I wasn't diagnosed with borderline personality disorder until I'd been getting treatment for depression for years.

i haven't suffered from any PPd or personality disorders. what i know is that the cause of schizoid ppd isn't known much. it can be genetic. you should not be sure that you are sufferring from ppd just by reading a few articles about it. yes you should see a good psychiatrist who will tell you if you are really having ppd by asking you certain questions and by conducting your personality test and then yu can go for psychotherapy.

Well, I think that the best thing is that you go and consult a specialist. It is hard to make a self-diagnosis, especially when it comes to psychology and mental disorders. Good luck.

Dude, I know EXACTLY how this is! I was surfing on the internet one time, and I came across this medical site. I had previously been breathing, and I was worried that I might have had cancer. Sure enough, one of the symptoms of cancer was breathing! I'm sure you can guess how shocked I was! See a doctor--the internet will tell you nothing about your health.
