heartworm that killed my 2 beagles.

one of my beagles died on the last week of january because of heartworm that was diagnosed 3 years ago, maybe her old age wasn't able to fight the disease she was carrying for ome years nw since it was diagnosed.
the other died on the second week of february, also because of heartworm.
today i only have 1 beagle left, what can do to prevent her from being nfected by heartworm?

I'm sorry about your beagles. Yes there is a vaccine for heartworms but they have to be tested first if they are already infected. As these heartworms can be easily transfered through mosquito bites from an infected dog to another.
Heartguard is an excellent choice as a prevention for heartworms. Oh and you have to take them monthly for vaccination for heartworms

There is medication to prevent heart worm in all dogs. If you have access to a vetrinary clinic you can obtain the medication from there. The dosage is dependant on the weight of your dog. You will have to have the a blood test conducted on your pet before adminisistering the medication. It is of no use if the dog is already infected. The vetrinarian can advise you in more detail.
I hope this works out well for you as it is always distressing to lose a much loved friend.

What prevented you from treating or preventing heartworm? The medication that prevents heartworm only costs $8 or less a month per dog. You can prevent your last Beagle from getting it by taking her to the vet and getting her heartworm tested. If she is positive, start her on heatworm treatment immediately. If she isn't, then start her on montly preventative medication. They have chewable tablets and you give them to the dog once per month. In northern states, they may only have you give it 8 months out of the year but in the south its year round.
Heartworm is carried by mosquitos, and because you have a dog with heartworm, it doesn't mean the other will get it but its possible that a mosquito who bites one can bite the other and transfer it.
