I just got a new computer with a brand new install of Win Xp. I went to my old machine to do the files and settings transfer wizard and it told me it would take almost 50 disks, or 17 cd's to transfer everything that I have in my computer! I couldn't believe it! So what I have decided to do as a solution is email myself most of the files as attachments and then just download them from my unlimited email storage box to the other computer as per. What do you think that I should do, should I just transfer the files and be done or is my idea better than using up all those CD's, in fact I am not sure that I have that many here.

The easy solution is to set up a network between the computers and copy those files that you need over the network. If that is all you intend to do then 2 network cards and a cross-over cable should be anough.

try also to put all your files in a compressed folder(zip or rar) to reduce the file size and you will be only tranferring one file or you may group your files into different zip or rar files....

I think you should try the file trasfer protocol through the peer to peer network. I think it is available in Windows XP. You need to connect the two computers through etherenet cables and then transfer the files. If you have the infra red devices, you could do it with them too.

I would suggest that you purchase an external hard disk. The storage capacity is much more than using cds and diskettes and it can also act as a back up for your files in the future in the event of another crash or should you purchase a new computer. That way, you will always have all your files without having to retrieve them over and over again or be confused at where you saved what. It helps a lot.
