Personally I would go for a branded PC, one that basically comes with all the components I have requested. I don't tend to just walk into a shop and buy a pc, I would rather shop online with a branded retailer and select the types of components that go into the machine. I think you get better warranties and recourse if things go wrong with it.

You are incorrect about the warranties. Branded PCs carry a maximum of 1 year warranty for parts and labor unless you pay extra for the extended warranty. An assembled PC may have parts with 1, 3, or 5 year warranties. Some parts like RAM carry lifetime warranties.

I too go for a assembled PC . You can have your own specs and also put in stuff from the brand you prefer . I feel that the big companies like ACER and HP tend to use cheap hardware in the computer . The chinese stuff is useless and the compnies manufacture stuff in china .

I personally prefer an assembled PC to a branded one because: 1) peripherals and components can be chosen to be from those companies that have currently high ratings 2) warranty of 3yrs-5yrs is assured on each and every component 3) larger number of peripherals and components can be used at lesser price 4) the net amount to be spent is also much lesser than that of a branded PC.

I like to go for assembled system, because the selection of parts is depended on me. Now a days the option for more varieties available. So I go for assembled for branded parts for my system.

I would go for assembled. Why? Its cheaper. Period. To assemble a PC is more economical than buying a branded one. If you buy a branded PC, basically your just buying its name, well of course the quality must be good since its branded. But having an assembled pc, yes its cheaper, but it also gives you more flexibility in terms of customizing it.

It depends on the purpose for which the computer is bought, If you have a lot of money you can go for a branded one and there also you can get all the required configuration at a high price. But when you buy a branded PC, it comes with warranty and service will be available easily. If you assemble a PC you can costomise the configuration according to your needs and the price will be cheaper. And If you are buying a laptop it is always recommended to buy a branded one.

I would prefer an assembled PC. In fact, we assembled our own years ago and it ran great for a long time. It was cheaper too. (However, I'd just buy a mac.. I don't like PCs too much since I changed over)
