Ma? Ma? Ma?

Did you ever want to change your name? How many times a day do you hear the word "Ma" or "mommy"? Thousands! One day I told my kids that I was changing my name, as I'm sure countless mothers have done. So the 3 of them took turns guessing what my new name was, because I wouldn't tell them! I really didn't have a new name in mind, but it was fun listening to them. My middle child, then 6 came up with Queen! So now when I tell them that I am changing my name, they all call me Queen or Queen Mum! I love it!

That's so funny, my mom used to do the same thing. One day my sister when she was around 8 said, "so change it, we still no where you live". That went along with the favorite threat of my mother "I'm leaving to go live on an island with no husbands and no kids" She and her friends would joke about this all the time...little did she realize I spent literally years worrying that she was going to the island....lol Whenever she would come home late I was in an absolute panic that she had really gone to that island. When I got older and knew there was no such place..I then began to fear that one day she would just not come home. As stupid as it sounds it is so embedded in my head that at 46 I still have that fear come back when I don't know where she is...hehe. It's funny the way things mother's say can stick with you. I don't really think it's happening but I recall the fear is more like it. Heck I might be tempted to go to that island if it did exist....know what I mean.

That Island would be wonderful. I'm so sorry to hear that you took your mom's comment so much to heart and I must be a little more careful because I do tell my kids that I'm going on a long vacation one day with NO ONE, so after reading your post I am going to take a break and go and explain to them that it's only because I get so frustrated and not because I would actually EVER leave them.

That's cute, whenever I told my 5 year old I was changin my name he told me that I couldn't because Santa Claus wouldn't be able to find me if I did. haha, anyhow, now I just say Mom's not in right now leave a message after the beep, then never beep, he gets the point of it now that whenever he hears that I am getting really stressed out & need him to just let me be for a couple of minutes. Its hard being home with the kids 24/7 & hearing mommy 19 hours of the day every day, lol, I cant even take a bath without hearing a little voice at the bathroom door saying mommy I need or I want....

That is so great! I love hearing stuff like this. I have told my kids that I'm changing my name. I've also replied that "she doesn't live here anymore." That always confuses them. Of course, back to Mommy world a few seconds later.

That is great! Queen mum... I'd love it too-- To be queen for a day.. I tell my daughter that all the time- Her problem is she will know exactly where I am but yell for me from another room.. It drives me crazy-- I tell her unless you broke a leg and cannot move- Please come find me and don't yell MOM.. Oh my it's one of my biggest pet peeves... I now ignore her until she comes and says mom-- didn't you hear me calling you?? I'm going to try to change my name too! and see how it works.

I started off around age 14 being "Mommy #2" to my nephews & nieces, since then I have become mom, mommy, ma, the list goes on. I love the fact that I am a mom, but there are times when I wish that I didn't have a name at all! LOL! Then one of my kids will say "Mom, I love you, or Mom, thanks for doing..." and I am glad that I have that name. I know that just about every woman can be a mother, but you have to earn the title of MOM.

Of course you are right, but how often does the "Mom I love you" come into play? Should be most of the sentences!

I have 2 stepkids, ages 15 and 12 who I've been with for the past 11 years. So I'm tired of being called by my name (we decided years ago that I'd just go by my first name.) Now that DS is talking, I LOVE it when he calls me mommy. :-)

This is funny! I don't know how many times I threatened to change my name while the kids were growing up! I would ask my kids, "don't you know anybody else besides mommy?" Gotta love them, but they can drive you crazy at times.

how sweet, Yes My kid also the moment I am drowning in to the deep embrace of sleep, he has to come and say mumma , You know........and there goes my nap. I just can't sleep in day time due to him. I remember my mom also telling me and my brothere that we never let her sleep, my brother used to tease her even when he was in college, he would often call out ma just to check her out. I think this has to be a genetic trait by now,lol

That is so cool...Queen mum! As for me, I like being called Mommy J. My eldest son usually calls me with this name whenever he wants to go out and have fun in the arcade.
