Has anyone done this? More information can be found at: http://www.motherbearproject.org
I would love to do it, but can't believe that you have to pay for the pattern! I don't mind the three dollars for shipping that I'd have to send, but I don't really like the idea of having to purchase the pattern. However, I understand that they have operating costs and such.
Please let me know if you've done this project before. I think it is a great cause. Maybe a bunch of us should do this!

Wow, this sounds like a really good cause, but I am also puzzled by the fact that you need to pay $5 for the pattern. Most places have the pattern for free to download. If they are selling the pattern to pay for server space, than they should say so somewhere. I dunno, it kinda rubs me the wrong way. The good news is that there are a bunch of other knitting for charity things that we could do. Right now I'm knitting blankets for animal shelters. In the past I've made scarfs for the homeless and baby hats for premature babies.
I do like the idea of a bunch of us doing something together though. I'll have to keep checking this section to see if anything happens with it. That reminds me though, I really should get working on finishing up that second animal blanket of mine. Problem is that it is just so easy to talk about knitting on myLot sometimes rather than actually getting up and doing it.

LOL...Agreed! I was searching the site, and could not find where the $5 goes to.

That's great that you send the blankets to animal shelters! Those pound of love yarns are great! Acrylic yarn is really great for animals and other types of uses where it needs to be washed. Also, is it just me, or is acrylic yarn super soft and yummy now a days? I remember just 5 years ago acrylic yarns being WAAAAYYY less soft.

I'm also working on a blanket for shelter animals. I think the charity is called "the Snuggles Project." They call the blankets "Hugs". The guidlines are pretty loose, you just make a blanket and send it to one of the shelters on the list. They are looking for any size since shelter animals come in all shapes and sizes. Something that can handle lots of washing is reccomended. I usualy use a soft acrlyic. I belive it's is Caron, who makes the "Pound of Love" yarn. That is great cause it's really affordable, and a whole pound is a lot of yarn!

This is a nice idea. This year, however, I am focusing my "charitable knitting" on hats for the homeless.
It's hard when there are so many good causes.
Also, right now, while I have plenty of yarn in my stash, I don't have two dimes to rub together - I'm broke!

Agreed! That's super nice of you to do. I donate blood every 57 days...I figure as broke as I may be, I can always donate my blood! LOL

Not all stuff you read about is honest so I would try to check them out first. Other than that, I think am a little offended by the money issue. They are, after all, getting free labor and materials from the crafter already and like a previous post, some of us may have the time and materials but not extra money so they may miss out on a lot of help. I wouldn't do it and besides there are so many other places that provide free patterns and are just as worthy. I've donated items to people who provide burial gowns for babies who don't make it, little clothes for preemies--like hats, sweaters and blankets. Some of these sites have asked for donations, but they aren't pushy and explain just where the money is going. Some of them use the money to buy yarn and they give it to persons who can make the items but don't have the money to buy yarn.

i have not even heard of this before now but it is something that i would like to try to do but i am like you i would not be willing to pay for the pattern i know that the money goes to help children that are in need but we are knitting for them cant they just be happy with that haha i would not mind spending the three dollars for shipping either but having to pay for the pattern too is just getting a little rediculous i also unterstand that they have to have the operating costs too but i dont know maybe they should consider other options....
