We just got the news that Sirius Satelite and XM Satelite companies are merging. There are some details that have to be worked out with the FCC and the Justice Department. How do you feel about this information? We are watching cause my husband works for Sirius.

I've never had either service, so it doesn't matter to me. But it's probably a smart move, neither company was really making money, partly because each had to offer people like Howard Stern and Oprah big money to join their network instead of the other.
It's a good thing for the long-term future of satellite radio, I think... but maybe not so much for the employees, since there are often layoffs from a merger like this. I hope your husband's job is safe.

Surprisingly, the companies both make very good money. Howard Stern and Oprah are not the only ones being paid well. As for my husband's job, it is safe for most of 2007. Then after the merge is complete, he could be looking for a new job or we could be moving to Florida since what he does for Sirius could be done better at the facility that XM has in Florida. I am watching to see what happens to the stock tommorrow when the market opens.

I'm glad to see that they are merging. I'm not usually for mergers, but in this case I think it's the right thing to do.
Hopefully the FCC won't harbor any hard feelings against Howard Stern.

The FCC is mainly involved because they originally issued two broadcasting licenses. One to Sirius and One to XM. So as the two companies merge, the licensing has to change also. Or a new license has to be bought and issued. These broadcasting licenses are very expensive, often costly millions of dollars.
