Music? Does it influence us?

Does music influence us? Does it influence our moods either positively or negatively? I used to think alot of things we're just a load of bullocks (ever since I saw "V for Vendetta" I can't get this word out of my head :-P), but I started noticing my different moods when I would put on different music. For one if I had a bad day, then came home and blasted some heavy metal I would find myself to be one angry person hating everything. But when I would switch to a different style of music (mainly something with better lyrics and not such a dark atmosphere with the music) then I would calm down and focus better. So I stopped listening to alot of negative music only because I could feel it making me incredibly negative, and who wants to be negative all the time, no fun. I thought negative, I acted negative, I spoke negative and you name it, if it was negative I was doing it. Now I still listen to some negative music but I balance my listening, I won't listen to it for hours or very long, just a song here and their. I incorporated more positive music into my lifestyle and I can tell a major difference about myself. So what do you all think, does music influence us? If so how does it influence you?

Oh I believe that music definitely does influence us more than we realise. Like you pointed out that you experience negative reactions when you listened to loud, noisy music but when you changed to more soothing ones, you feel calmer and more positive. I too experience similar responses. I go more for classical, romantic, sentimental music. If I listen to those with faster tempo I find my feet twitching to the beat and I feel like dancing. But I will avoid music whose lyrics doesn't make sense and with the kind of percussion beats that reverberate in the head and cause the heart to pound with it even after the music stops.

It becomes clearer and clearer that you need to guard your mind from certain influences, otherwise they will get into your subconscious and start fiddling with you in the wrong ways

Music has a great influence in my life. I'm a songwirter myself that's why i do consider it as one of my passions and more to say, my life. I could express my own feelings and my ownself through the music that I write. If I'm sad, of course, it has something to be a mellow one and if i'm happy, it's a jolly one. My opinions and the way I stand in a certain situation would affect the music that I write too. Now, I have just though what if I'm not a songwriter, would music still influence me? My answer would be definitely YES! Music helps change your mood. The kind of music that you listen to, reflects the kind of personality you have. So basically, wherever I may go, I know music would be a great influence to me.

Yes it does me. Espcially when I'm driving. I noticee if a good song comes on that I know and it's a fast one, then I tend to drive faster and feel better. Also a good song will make me feel better if I'm down. Songs also bring back memories, sometimes good sometimes bad.

Yes,music does influence me. It can put me in a good mood. It can also brinmg down to a depressing mood. Depending on what kind of music is played. I like to hear up beat music. Something you can dance or rock to. It makes me smile. Now give me something slow. Than you will see tears come to my eyes. As it makes me think to much.

I definitely believe that music influences us. When I'm having a really stressful day, I can put on some light music or worship music at home and I can tell a complete change in my anxiety level within a few minutes. There's also a strong link between violent crimes and the type of music that the perpetrators listen to. Music and it's message is DEFINITELY influential.

It does influence me alot. Let me share my experiences with music. I started listening to music seriously when i was in my 10 standard. I felt there is an urge to embed music into my studying. Music has been with me all along and even now as i write this reponse. It changed my life from NOwhere to NOWhere. Thanks to my music. My grades have improved to 90+ out of 100. And now i have secured a job in IT company and waiting to join it three months later.

Elton John said, "When all hope is gone, sad songs say so much." Daniel Powder said, "You had a bad day, taken one down, sing a sad song just to turn it around." There are a kazillion examples of tunes that can alter our moods and our motivation. When I am feeling like nothings seems to fit, I play "What a Feeling." by Irene Kara and it lifts me. Anything by the Moody Blues sends my spirits on an upward journey. Anything that I can sing in my car and have a good cry to makes me feel a bit better.

Yes of-course, we are very closely attached to the music. Type of music definately changes our mood. I don't know much about English songs, but Hindi songs in Indai are full of meaning and melody, songs in the movies are picturised in such beautiful places, that we remain astonished looking this combination of nature, music and words all together. It is music that make parities fun and occasions like marriage etc will be so dull with music.Even a new born baby can understand music. This world would really be a very dull place without music. As for me I can put on music and then do all my work without getting tired. Some times I just sit an listen to Gazals and it gives me great pleasure.

Yes, I think so. Music is very powerful. To me there aren't positive or negative kinds of music, every kind of music deserves respect. In "Arancia meccanica" (I don't know the English title, it's a very famous film by Stanley Kubrik) the protagonist loves Beethoven music and its powerful influences him. Now there are some doctors who use the musicotherapy, this demonstrates that music can influence people and his/her moods.

Oh, yes, for me definitely influences me. If I am in a bad mood all I have to do is put soft music on and I start to calm down. Music with more of a beat and I start getting in a upbeat mood. I firmly believe that music is a mood enhancer and it reaches into my soul.
