Here in the Philippines, seeing women with hairs on their underarms gets some what a shocking response from everyone. What are your thoughts when see you girls who are like these? Are they common to your place, or are they already has become a part of your culture?

It sure is, but I just want to let all the people here and around the world know that it is not normal for us filipinos to have women with underarm problems.

I find it somewhat gross.lol.I can't imagine myself being like that.I used to live in cebu, and i have seen a lot of girls with dark underarms. What bothers me is that they wear sleeveless clothes.I mean, its not a nice sight to look at.

Ain't that a nasty habit to have, were they not that aware enough of what someone would comment on them?! Well I guess they must be trying to send a message for everybody, but to what the message is, I do not know!;)

Women shaving underarms and legs is the societal norm in the US for the most part. Some people are lucky and have sparse or no hair growth, so it is not much of an issue to them.

Good thing you've mentioned that, because I saw a certain celebrity who was caught by media cameras with her unshaved under arms!;)

I don't see it often, but I do occaisionally. I don't think it looks good at all. I think it's fine if you don't want to remove the hair but it just doesn't look good with a sleevless style top. I don't think it looks good for men either when they wear tops without sleeves.

Well that's a very different view!;) I thinks men and women have different types of hormones that affects each others growth, and most men are distiguished because of having hair under their arms. To which women are not known for.. LoL

When I was in college there was this Women's basketball event in our university. Other asian countries were invited to come and play. I'm not going to mention the name of the country ^_^ We were really excited to see other asian beauties, not to mention that they are prettier than our players ^_^ After the ceremonies the game started. Every game starts with a jump ball right?? When the center players from each team tried to grab the ball for possession everyone in the Gym was caught laughing. The center player had a bush of think hair in her armpit. Aw not to mention that she was the prettiest of all the players we saw. It was really a turn off...

That's a pretty awful experince, it really is quite a turn off for men to see women(especially those who're beautiful) more MANLY than us, men!;) If it's a bush, then there must be wild animals lurking around it! LMAO

I'm also from the Philippines, and I'm a girl. I do agree that dark underarms and hair under the armpits are not pretty sights on a girl. But they look okay on men. LOL. I guess it's really part of the general culture.

Well, I guess it only applies to some. Most of filipinas here would rather let hairs under their arms plucked or shaved, I think most of them are aware on what others would say on them..

As I see the most men shave the underarm too, just like women. It is question of hygienic.

I guess men don't shave because it is a part of their being mature, since not all women grow's hair that long as for us guys. It seems that these are signs of maturing for us guys, just like the monthly period's for women..

Well, mostly the girl like that are not aware what people say to them. And when i become a "dalaga ika nga" (lady)I've never try to let my underarms had a grown hair. I too much take care of my armpits coz even me if i saw the girl having a black armpit's and not removing the hair...gosh.... I'm discourage of that. And i doing wax to remove it so i feel comfortable and fresh if i saw my underarms clean.

I'm also from the Philippines. I always pluck the hair on my underarms. Most girls in the Philippines are really conscious about their underarms that's why if they can afford they go to the doctor to have their underarms whiten or to remove their hair. I'm so thankful because I don't have black underarms.

for sure it's not a 'sexy' sight :) No I don't see this around, I guess some girls are making a statement about "feminism" and equality by going too far with such things to shook backward males like us lol

Or maybe some of them are just too stubborn to shave their underarms!;) And to think that it's not a hygienic sight for us men to see women with hairs under their arms.

In my case, I percieve these girls as unhygienic. It looks dirty in some sense. I can't imagine my partner having a black underarms or even hairs on the armpit. It's totally disgusting. Yet this is just in our culture. I still respect other cultures that cater and accept these things.

Yes, it is common in some country that men are the one's that have hairs on their armpits. Just like here, most people are not used to seeing women with hairs under their arms..

I remember an incident when I was still in grade school. I boarded a jeepney and I was on my way to school. Then this woman, boarded and she was really very attractive. She wore a sleeveless top and her skin was totally flawless. Then, she raised her arm..... and I saw Tarzan and his jungle!!!lol! Oh my goodness, raijin! Here was a lovely young woman sitting infront of me and I even was envious of her complexion and her attractiveness. But the moment she raised her arm, oh my goodness again! The hairs on her underarm was I think two inches long. And I mean, they were long and so thick and so very black! I didn't know if to continue staring, laugh hysterically or get a scissor and do some trimming.^_^

I can't stop laughing!lol! Oh, and I assure you, she's a 100% woman, through and through! I think she ought to join Ripley's Believe or Not, and I'm pretty sure she'll be a title holder of the Longest Underarm hair in a woman!

It's awkward seeing women with hairs on the underarms... and deodarant endorsers here do not encourage black underarms -- which somehow creates this stereotype of a barbie-like woman that should be molded according to what is prescribed by the media... but i guess, the hair on the underarms is popular in Europe. :)

hahahaha! :) actually, we've been debating and looking into the reasons why there are girls who have natural black arms (other than the color) it's hereditary daw... they are black/dark but do not have BO naman. :)

My sisters have black underarms but fortunately I don't. Lol! Unfortunately I have black thick hair in my underarms, I don't know why? I might be inherited from my parents? All I have to do is to shave it once a week, specially if I have to wear sleeveless.

Atleast you're aware of it, so I guess there's no problem in it. What troubles me are those who goes out and don't even care of what they look at others, it bothers me since I'm not used to seeing women like that..

I think these are strong women (not girls), who are confident enough to be comfortable with their bodies as they are, and not feel like they have to conform to the ideal of beauty pageant queen. It's not that common though, even in liberated California, so I have to admire those that I do see.

In my own perception, women can be strong in any aspect and not that'll somehow affect their personality in a negative way. I believe most women can handle MEN's job now, that is whre I believe they are strong and independent.

Hi raijin, sorry so late, hehe.Ive seen this before with a girl that was from anothercountry who came to our school and traded with another girl who went to hers, for awhile. She had hairy underarms and she said it was natural from the country she came from.Well,we could not get used to that fact let me tell you, especially the guys, because she was very nice looking and then the hair just turned it off. This is rare to see this here, only if the person does not take care of their physical appearance and to lazy to shave it.Im never seen with hair under my arms or legs for that matter. Its more femine i think when its not there and clean looking, hahaha.:)

That's what I'm talking about, it seems that some country embraces this trend maybe because it's a part of their culture. But admit it or not, most people are really not used to seeing it!;) I know it could really be a major bummer, but what more if that hair also smells nasty?!LoL

I am from UK and I don't like seeing women with underarm hair. I shave or wax under my arms. I also think it looks unsightly to see ladies with their minny hair sticking out from the sides of their bikini bottoms. It looks much tidier if it is kept trimmed :-)
