7 Don'ts after a meal...very important

I got this in the mail today and thought the users on myLot would benefit from it. Read on! 1. Don't smoke - Experiment from experts proves that smoking a cigarette after meal is comparable to smoking 10 cigarettes (chances of cancer is higher). 2. Don't eat fruits immediately - Immediately eating fruits after meals will cause stomach to be bloated with air. Therefore take fruit 1-2hr after meal or 1hr before meal. 3. Don't drink tea - Because tea leaves contain a high content of acid. This substance will cause the Protein content in the food we consume to be hardened thus difficult to digest. 4. Don't loosen your belt - Loosening the belt after a meal will easily cause the intestine to be twisted & blocked. 5. Don't bathe - Bathing will cause the increase of blood flow to the hands, legs & body thus the amount of blood around the stomach will therefore decrease. This will weaken the digestive system in our stomach. 6. Don't walk about - People always say that after a meal walk a hundred steps and you will live till 99. In actual fact this is not true.Walking will cause the digestive system to be unable to absorb the nutrition from the food we intake. 7. Don't sleep immediately - The food we intake will not be able to digest properly. Thus will lead to gastric & infection in our intestine. Hmm, something to think about huh? I had no idea eating fruits immediately after a meal was a bad idea, and even taking a shower...gee, there's more to it than we know!

You said you got this in the mail and didn't know if you should trust it or not. Well, I can tell you: this is all a lot of rubbish! 1. "Don't smoke" -- Why shouldn't you? Smoking (lungs) and digestion (stomach) have nothing to do with each other. You risk cancer as soon as you're born anyway. 2. "Don't eat fruits immediately" -- Fruit have actually been shown to help digestion. 3. "Don't drink tea" -- The stomach is naturally acid, and this is why you're able to digest. Added acidity from tea is insignificant. 4. "Don't loosen your belt" -- And I suppose braces are alright? Honestly, belt on or in your birthday suit, your digestion won't be affected either way. 5. "Don't bathe" -- I suppose this is a reference to not going into *cold* water after a meal, which can cause 'hydrocution' (although rarely). To you take cold baths? ;) 6. "Don't walk about" -- and why not "stop breathing" while you're at it? Intake of oxygen does affect your digestion, you know -- and the rest of you metabolism! 7. "Don't sleep immediately" -- actually, digesting induces a natural sleepiness. Sleeping, with the horizontal position it implies, actually increases the blood flow through the liver and help detoxifying any food that may otherwise harm the organism. So please, get your facts straight before you believe such information. I don't what its purpose is, but it certainly is complete nonsense that all nutritionists would be appalled at.

Thanks for making this clear Thomas, but may I ask where you got your explanations from?

I'm a biologist, and consequently I've learned a few facts about health. Obviously, a real nutritionist would have been able to give you a better answer. :)

Some of the don'ts seem not so credible.... How credible is your source? Where does the source comes from?

I got this one in the mail so I'm not sure if its true. But again, each one may have a scientific reason and could be right.

Wow. Some of these I've heard of before. The fruit thing and the tea thing surprised me very much! I never knew that - and I like having a cup of tea with my dinner. Guess I'll have to change that habit. It seems that even eating healthy things after dinner can cause problems lol. Whatever next?

I think what you shared with us appears nice but lacks medical backing. Therefore i will advice that, since it concerns health, and heal is life, it will be proper to buttress it with medical evidence through quote or refernce. Thanks.
