what exactly is a falafel?

Falafel is a kind of food which made from the mashed boiled chickpeas and mixed with some other spices such as parsley, coriander, cumin, pepper, garlic, onion etc. To make a falafel you must combine all the ingredients and form a small ball before frying them in the hot oil. It is nice to be eaten with tahini (roasted sesame bean blended with olive oil paste) hummus (mashed chickpeas mixed with tahini and lemon juice) and pita bread.

hilarious -- I had a friend who just asked me this same question yesterday. I always thought it was like gyro, but I'm totally not even sure.

I don't know if that is spelled right, but I know what you are talking about. It's a food item, but I can't be more specific because I can't be sure what type. It may be a type of pancake or waffle.
