Nonsense Discussions

I opened up my email and BAM, over 19 pages of discussions being started. So I scan through them and to my dismay most were from just a few (3) friends and others were more reasonable. I look at the discussions and they were one liners, or nonsense discussions. It made me soooo mad. I at least put some thought into my discussions and not post too many a day, but when a person posts about 100 a day, I mean what do they exepect? Some were more than than that and they don't even respond to my discussions. I don't want to get rid of them, but I am disgussted and hope they get a reality check soon. whew. thanks, I just had to vent. What do you think?

If my friends start loads of new discussions in a day I just answer the first one and delete all the rest. Especially if they are jokes as I never know how to respond to them.

Good advice. I have a lot that I answer all of the discussions to or at least try too, but some are just....well I won't go there.

Luckily I don't get the emails for all the discussions, so the emails don't seem so overwhelming. However, this is not just common to MyLot. I used to get all the postings from my friends at Gather, and it was the same thing. A few people just posting for the points and never reading anything yet expecting others to read all of theirs. I wonder when people will figure out this is about give and take?

I'm new. So thanks for sharing! At least now i know not to do that. =) Seems a bit stupid though. They're called "discussions" for a reason.

Well whom ever the person is cut of the off button. then you want half to see it. I might do one liners but I go into details. I don't have all day to be here. I have others things to do.

Hmm you don't want to get rid of them huh? Then just turn them 'off'..lol! Nothing puts me off more than looking at a pile of junk in my mailbox first thing in the morning. Fortunately after I cleaned up my friends list, I'm left with only the ones who start meaningful worthwhile discussions. It saves me so much time everyday when I can respond to discussions from the mail notifications, I don't have to search for good ones, they are right there! And 'BAM'? You suddenly sounded like Emeril Lagasse...lol just kidding

I agree with you completely. It's like some people don't want to make the effort to come up with something that utilizes the brain/imagination. Granted, there are a few of those one liners that make you think. But the rest? Puh-leeeeeze.

I have at least 4 on my friends list that did that and I also didn't want to delete so I didn't, but those 4 the notify is off and since that is how I mainly respond to my friends discussions is through my email I don't respond to their discussions anymore if they decide to delete me that's fine, but I don't get pages of nonsense anymore. I also spend a lot of time working on a discussion prior to posting and I only do a couple of disussions every couple of days. I see no reason to upload one liners, that most likely won't get any responses. Or the discussions that are all similiar with a different angle, make one quality discussion with all of the information don't turn it in to 15 different discussions. Just my 2 cents worth. :) We have all vented about this topic. :)

I also found that when I do post discussion topics in categories that I am interested (mainly related to writing), asking questions that I genuinely want to know the answer, I get a lot more out of my participation on MyLot. Once I started narrowing my topic and questions to things I really care about, the whole thing became a lot more rewarding to me.

When I started My Lot I answered everything because I thought i should but now I am more choosy , I answer all my friends ones but then I seem lucky enough to have friends who do good discussions , ( mean the good friends I have got to know , I have tried to keep up with all the people who have asked me to be friends but to be honest I can't . I don't respond to daft questions as I call them either . xx

yes I found that awhile ago, I found I had to just pick the ones that do good discussions to leave my notifyer on, so I have only about 10 people from my friends group that I have their discussions emailed to me.

many nonsense discussions are being posted everyday!...sometimes, im one of them!...it is our choice to post that kind of discussions because of so many discussions being posted everyday, it's hard to think for an interresting discussion/s!...

My first couple of days here I had my email set up to get discussion notices. After that, I shut it down. I'd spend all day just going through the emails. Now I just go through the discussions on the board and don't worry about it that much. I respond to friends' discussions that interest me, but silly stuff I tend to skip over.

Oh i have this too ... i wonder if we have the same people on our friends list!!! Currently i have just taken them off my email list but i have been debating about deleting these people as friends. I mean i really try to comment on all of my friends discussions and get to know them - while these people are just here for a quick money fix and they obviously think that posting discussions is the way to do it. I would struggle to do 100 posts/comments a day but then i read threads about people boasting about doing it regularly - but when you go to see what they've answered it's all one sentence ... so 10 words or less!

Well, I am glad you vented and feel better. :) Yes, I know exactly what you mean!!!! There have been many of times that I have opened my email and have been overwhelmed with notifications and many were from the same few people. It gets to a point sometimes that I don't see the point in responding to all of them because it is taking time away from my other friends that do not post as often. So, sometimes I will skip those and scroll through my inbox to see if there are any other friends that might be waiting for a response. :) Also...when one person creates too many discussions in one day, I find that most of them I can not even respond to because the discussions do that say that much. So, I completely understand your point and since my notifications are not working right now...Now is my time to try to catch up on some discussions that keep getting pushed to the bottom of the inbox. So, sorry if this comes so late...but at least it will come back up to the top of the discussions. :)

Yeah you are right... I dont like to see such discussions which makes no sense at all.... afterall its a public forum to make nice discussions and know more and learn things.... oneliners are always so boring, not participating people!!!!!!!!!

I work my way down my list and never quite that long. I answer what I choose and move on. Deleting as I go the ones that either they have posted sooo many and I need to answer a few from my other friends, or they don't pertain to me in any way. Am thankful for the discussions they start since it helps me to earn. My pet peeve is the needy discussions. I always wonder how much I can share and try to help with and wonder if it falls on deaf ears. I know I still try though and still learn while doing so. Soon the 100 discussio poster will calm down. Mine did. Now others are keeping me busy. I thank all my friends very much. Glad you could share and thanks for letting me share too.

Honestly I say delete those friends.. That is ridiculous! I see alot of posters here posting a new discussion every 5 minutes or so! It's crazy! I always skip over those. I have only 1 friend who I think posts like that- Doesn't tell you thier thoughts on the subject-- just asks questions that they think will get alot of repsonses. These people drive me crazy! I'm looking for interesting- quality discussions to post to. You can also turn your notify off on those 3.

I agree CatEyes. I used to get email notifications for all my frends, but because many come down overnight for ne, and I can't access the Net from work, I sometimes used to get home at night to find literally hundreds! So I soon got to realise which friends made useful, informative, and interesting discussions, and which spammed the Internet with daft one liners. So I put those people on block, so that I only get emails from the ones I think will be more interesting, and worth reading. Once I have finished them, I then go back and have a quick look at the rest.

I used to answer all the discussions that my friends posted but like you, I am finding that some just post a sentance or two and post many in an hour. I am now beginning to be more selective as to the ones that I post comments to. I just dont have the time to waste on things of no importance to me and they will probably get deleted my mylot anyway.
