A friend just emailed me some photos of a road in Boliva. I am so happy I do not have to drive these roads to get anywhere. I will certainly make sure if I ever do visit Boliva that this is a road I will not have to travel on to get to my destination! What about you? Would you be willing to drive on this road? Trust someone else to drive you? Or would you be like me and walk it..I think it's only 40 miles.LOL More photos of this road of death and some other peoples opinions! http://www.hptuners.com/forum/showthread.php?p=73950#post73950

This road is known as the worlds most dangerous road as it has average of about 80 fatalities per year. The road itself is not the worst in Bolivia and I have been on a number that are worse - it looks dramatic though. Most accidents are due to macho driving or drunk driving which is common in Bolivia. 3 months ago a new road opened up on the other side of the valley and very few vehicles now use this old road. It it now mainly used just by the mountain biking companies from La Paz that sell trips to tourists biking down the worlds most dangerous road - its very popular but a bit over hyped. Biking down is aot safer than be in a bus driven by a drunken driver. I have travel this road quite a few times.

Wow, awesome, you must be a daredevil. Just kidding. It's nice to speak to someone who has traveled the road many times. I a m also glad to hear they have made a safer road for people to travel. I do agree a large part of most accidents are caused by speeders and drunk drivers. I am surprised to hear there are only 80 deaths per year on that road. I expected a much higher fatality rate.

May be the figure of 80 is an official figure. The actual figure could be more. Just a guess!

Oh my word, it looks scary! I'm a nervous driver, and I like straight flat roads and I prefer to drive in the evening when there is not much traffic. I suppose in places like Bolivia, the only alternative to the road is a sort of aerial ski-lift - only it would be difficult to transport a lot of goods on a ski-lift.

LOL, me too! We did have some winding roads in Pennsylvania without guard rails. I was always scared of those. I don't think they even half as scary as these roads though!

Thanks for the pictures. I felt my heart drop in to my abdomen! I noticed some of those vehicles are buses full of people! I do remember the movie Romancing the Stone. They had a "pleasant" slide down the mountain although I'm sure most accidents do not end so nicely. I have been on many scary mountain roads in Colorado and Arizona and had the choice of taking one that was a two way when it should have been a one way! I decided to opt out of that one needless to say. I hate heights.

I would be terrified to drive on this roadand I would be scared to be in a vehicle that someone else was driving on this road! I saw this on TV this recently myself and it took my breath away! I would get outand walk - even if it took me all day!

WOW! Their is no way you would catch me on that road. I am terrified of hights to begin with and add the tiny twisting road no thanks lol. Their is a road in Canada that isn't anywhere near that bad, but is bad enough in B.C. It's called Roger's Pass and it's in the mountains so if you do go over the edge your in for a LONG drop. Enjoyed your post :)

Awesome pictures, both in Bolivia and China. No way would I want to drive or even ride on either road. Just the thought of it makes me sick. I think I'll even pass on the chance to walk them. Driving on a few roads in the Cascade Mountains in Washington State years ago left me weak in the knees and stomach. After all, we have nothing like that here in Florida.

Very true, at least not any I am aware of. I know some of the roads in Pennsylvania were pretty scary! I think I may just look around today and see if Florida does have any scary roads...I know we have a lot of scary drivers. LOL

Hell no. Only inside a mini and that wouldn't be fun at all for me. I remember seeing this road on a program which shown the worst roads and the presenter drove madly around it. I wouldn't, Nobody would get me there either. (for the fact I hate heights) Laugh out loud! ~Joey Kudos!

I can't believe I missed this show. I am searching the internet to see if I can find out where it aired or maybe even a video clip. I should check Youtube. Duh...I can't believe I didn't think of that til now. The pictures are awesome and scary but I want to see some driving it..I can't believe people actually do. It's crazy!

Some such roads (with hairpin bends and very steep zigzag slopes) do exist on the road between Manali and Leh in India, but this one is also very dangerous. I saw a Bond Movie yesterday night:"Quantum of Solace" starring Daniel Craig. I saw La Paz, and Bolivian desert. It had a Bolivian setting as core of the story.
