Seems like I never get on the (landline) telephone anymore these, sure to my children periodically, but even with my boyfriend, I will send an email before bothering him at work. What about you, do you think that landline TELEPHONES will become a thing of the PAST with the age of technology?

I do think landlines will be a thing of the past. Cell phones and computers will completely take over. I do use the landline to make local calls.

I have a landline (but its thru my cable company) a cell phone &, of course, the internet. So long as there are people without internet there will still be phones. Heck, strange as it seems, there are people that don't have phones because of monetary problems. I think there ought to be a minumum age for cell phones tho. Maybe I'm just getting old.

True, there should be a minimum age for cell phones, although my stepdaughter (age 7) has one and it is a lifesaver for us since her mother rarely answers the home phone we are able to talk to her every evening through the cell phone.

cell phone - I use my cell phone when I'm away from my computer or out of the house. Cell phone can really come in handy in an emergency when you're on the road.
Good discussion. There should be many responses here. I use my IMs to chat with my online friends whenever I'm online. I'd say over 50% of my chatting is done online and if I don't want to be tied up for a long time, I just send someone an email for them to read at their leisure. Sometimes I'm even on my landline while I'm online and chatting with someone else at the same time. My cell phone is used when I'm away from the computer and the house. The rest of the time it's turned off and being re-charged. I honestly don't know how I got along without one for so many years.

Yeah me too .. except I probably chat and send messages to my family through email than call them on the phone, just seems easier like you have more of an opportunity for them to actually hear from you instead of a voice mail message and then you start by playing telephone tag for the next week. Thanks for sharing, have a great day ~!

I don't have a landline phone. I use a cell phone. I chat on the computer a lot when I'm home, but mostly I use my cell phone. I currently have it being charged as I talked too much on it and didn't charge it last night.

Actually i use my mobile most of all and i use the texing alot. I hardly ever communicate through internet with "real life" friends. When i am at home i sometimes use the "landline" but usually it is the mobilephone!

Right now, we're using landlines and cell phones more. There was a time when I was doing some talking through the internet but hmm...don't really know why I stopped doing that.

I like to use both services. Ilike email when you are trying to get somethingimportant done, and you don't want to mail the person, they can get your message right away. It comes in handy for that.

A landline has already become a thing of the past in our household. We have three cell phones...one for the house or the kids when they have a function outside the home, one for my partner, and one for me. With all these phones, my partner does not see a point in having a landline. He was actually forced into having a landline with his previous job. But once he changed jobs, he canceled the landline. Which, now it makes it tough because I want to talk to my sister whom does not have a cell phone with Cingular and it takes a lot of our minutes that we share. So, when I spend an hour on the phone with her, I have to hear from my partner that I am using too many minutes. Geez! It's not as if I am calling everyone in the world! I really don't even talk on the phone that much! She is the only one that I talk to! LOL Which, he doesn't mind me talking to her...he just wants me to do it when the minutes are free on the weekend. ha ha

I do both. I talk to my parents and family over the internet and I call my hubby and friends here in the US using the land line. I don't think I can do without either considering I use them both a lot.

I used to talk on the phone more than i did anything, i had to get a long distance plan that allowed for 10000 minutes or more a month, and i was paying through the ear, day in and day out i was on the phone probably every minute of the day, and it never stopped, But then i got a computer, and suddenly, the only calls that come through the darn thing, is my husband and i talking, my roommates, or people calling about past due bills... I'm talking to everyone on the computer, always talking to someone. Friends and family no longer call and i no longer call them, it's all over the internet, and even when I'm doing stuff around the house, the computer's usually on with 5 or 6 people chatting with me. Now the computer is my lifeline, and the phone, that's a thing of the past for me. i think that the internet will definitely become a thing of the past, because it's already being put on the back burner, when 10 years ago it was the most important part of technology along with the cell phone... I actually have a feeling that cell phones will be made into mini computer phones, and you'll eventually be able to use it as a computer without needing a bulky desktop or laptop at your fingertips, since the cell clips onto your hip and it's with you all the time.... Mmmmmm Technology eh....... Sometimes hated, Mostly Loved... Take care Ash

I use them about the same amount of time. I have a lot of people who are not computor savey and do not use their email as they would want so I just call them.
