Oooh... I love this! First of all I don't have my baby yet, so I will adapt the questions as I go. 1. I use cloth for the environmental factor, the money saving factor, and because they are recyclable. I found 40 all in ones that are like NEW from freecyle. I looked up the brand and found that including all the inserts these diapers had cost over 400 dollars new. They range from newborn to toddler size and are absolutely adorable! We had also picked up about 10 all in ones from an Eco-wise store that had them on clearance. 2. My favorite thing is knowing I am not contributing to environmental disaster by using disposables. I love looking at my changing table all stuffed to the brim with cloth nappies... brings joy to my heart! 3. I have the all in ones as well as about twenty prefolds and twenty regular square diapers. I imagine we will figure out what kind of diaper works best for day as opposed to night and figure out the whole system thing when he gets here! 4. My routine? well, I plan on keeping a full watering can by the toilet for easy rinsing of 'dirty' diapers into the toilet. Wash with a little mild soap and sun-dry if the weather permits. As far as going out, the diapers came in these zippered plastic pouches so I plan on carrying empties in the diaper bag and using them to store the dirties. Throw in diaper pail upon arrival back home! I also plan to go to the fabric store soon to buy a yard or two of cotton fabric to make my own cloth wipes. 5. My favorites are the ones that are like pull-ups.. no velcro or anything, just an all in one pull up. I only have two of these, sadly... 6. My favorite place to shop is craigslist! Once your baby is out of naps you have all these wonderful cloth diapers to resell or give away. I've been trying to find those moms out there who will resell me their good-condition didy's on the cheap!

I don't use cloth diapers. I looked into it and it just isn't for me. For one thing I have to go out to do laundry and that would just make it a royal pain. I admire people who do use them though!

1. I use cloth for many reasons. He's allergic to disposables, I researched it and found that the gel stuff inside of sposies is toxic. I also care about the environment, I hate to think about those diapers rotting in a landfill for hundreds of years-gross. I also love the cute factor, I don't think anything is cuter than a baby in a cloth diaper, they are so much fun than disposables! 2. My favorite thing is that I never have to worry about buying a pack of diapers. I just look at what I've got, if I'm running out I do a load of laundry. Sweet! 3. I use just about everything but wool, I travel so I don't think I could handle lanolizing in a hotel room lol. 4. I do a cold cycle, then a hot cycle with a little bit of sportwash and tea tree oil. 5. Cheap fitteds, because I'm cheap and I love the covers they go under. 6. That's a toughie, if I had a lot of money, I like to shop at hyenacart, there's just something about having a handcrafted diaper made by another mom, they are just unique and seem to hold up better than mass-manufactured diapers.

Oh me! :) I used to be a dispossible kind of mom, I thought I knew everything there was to know about cloth and that it was gross and that i'd have poop all over my hands and all the other myths and stereotypes. Then my oldest got a rash that would not go away, nothing worked, i was taking him to the doctor every week and trying to save him. At one point the doctor pointed out the huge blisters and said his bottom would be permanently scared from the rash. I had a few freinds who used cloth, and were always trying to convince me, so I finally looked. And it scared me. All the things I read about the dangers of the chemicals in dispossibles, that was my poor sweet baby. I switched to cloth and I've never looked back. My little one now has never had anything but cloth, and has never had a rash. I'm frugal, its usually just prefolds and covers for me. I have some cute fitteds and a couple AIOs and either I have made or others have made for me. And i've got some cute wool pants that i got for yule. :)

1. I started because it was cheaper. I continued because it's so much better for my daughter and for the planet. 2. My favorite thing is the fact that I never ever have to go to the store because I ran out of diaps in the middle of the night, and I never ever have to lug a giant trash bag full of plastic and chemicals and baby waste out to the curb. 3. I use prefolds and covers a lot, but I'm currently making a bunch of contour pocket diapers to use with covers. They are AWESOME. 4. I was every 2 to 3 days, but I'm able to extend it more as I make more diapers and covers. 5. My favorite diaper besides the ones I've made is my fleece Starbunz. It is so awesome. It fits her well, and we've never had a leak. 6. The few diapers that I have purchased came from Diaperware.com. The lady who runs it is in my playgroup, so I can go to her shop and look at the diaps before I buy. That's a big plus for me.

I am 26 weeks pregnant and currently building up my supply of cloth diapers. I actually didn't know what kind of cloth diapers they had out there, man the cloth diapers theese days some of them are just like disposables but you just drop them in the washer, do a cold rinse, wash and dry and your done! Definately not the flinstones pepples and bam bam that we all originally had come into our mind. 1. I started becuase it was definately cheaper, even though there is that enital upfront cost, it is still cheaper and better than having to run out at midnight becuase you just realized that you are on your last diaper.. we live 20 minnutes from town so that alone is a huge factor for us. By the time our child will be born we will have all of the cloth diapers that we could ever need! Defiantely another plus! 2. I'm not sure of my favioriot thing as of yet but defiantely saving money, helping the enviroment, and seeing my baby in those cute little cloth diapers is going to run high on my list. 3. I am going to use prefolds and thirsties when she is first born then whens he reaches 15lbs I am going to switch to the bum geinus 2.0 diapers. (Theese are the ones that she can wear from birth to 35+ pounds.. never have to buy another diaper or switch sizes!) 4. I don't have a routine yet since she isn't here. 5. My favioriot diaper would definately have to be the bum genius diapers.. they are too adorable and defantely cost effective!

My children are adults now, but I used cloth diapers with all three of them. I used cloth diapers because it is healthier for baby. My favorite thing about cloth diapers is they are Earth friendly! I used a diaper service when my babies were newborns, then I laundered them myself. I had a multi-soak system! I first rinsed diapers clean! Then soaked overnight in BAKING SODA water! Then washed the next day! I washed with baby stuff that was non-detergent and always added baking soda to wash water. I washed twice! The second wash was water only. I also hung diapers out to dry on sunny days. Don't have a favorite diaper, but the type with the thicker padding in the center are nice, otherwise, double diaper my making your own inner padding with a diaper! I double diapered my babies at night, this way I avoided using "rubber pants" on babies overnight. Another tip: add a small bit of white vinegar to first wash.

I have been a babysitter for a bit over 40 years, and will use nothing but cloth diapers/training pants with plastic pants, from new born to completely trained. I have seldum had children in diapers(except for night time)past the age of 2 1/2 unless there were medical reasons. Like my father,(he was the sewing machine man)I make all my own from bulk roll flannel diapers. Pinking sheers along the edges to stop unravelling, and add layers to the middle for nap and night time for added absorbancy. Over the years,I have acumulated quite a number of pairs of plastic pants, most have very cute designs on them. As I have so many Diapers,I only need to actually wash a couple of times a week,so I have a large bucket with vinagar water to rince them and on washing day I add bleach to the first wash with the vinagar. then a cold wash to clean the cleaners out, then another hot wash, then one more cold(I prefer to be sure they are clear of deturgents),then, during the summer, hang them on the line outside, during the winter,I will semi dry them in the dryer, then hang them in the bathroom. As a locksmith,I also reward those who use cloth with an environmental award of a free key or a discount on my services. If and when I need anything extra,I get it now on E-Bay. Blessed Be.

You don't find the bleach causes the diapers to degrade faster? I've occasionally tossed a little chlorine bleach in with ones that have gotten so horribly stained I'd probably toss them if bleach doesn't clean them, but I've been told that using it regularly will make the diaper weaker faster.

Not only are cloth diapers a green (or yellow and brown LOL) way to go; but there are also cloth pads for women during menses. It certainly didn't harm grandma or mom when she washed them, are our hands so delicate now that we are unable to do so? ~Donna

I don't have children yet, but I've done quite a bit of babysitting. I have never used cloth diapers though, so I don't really know much about them. I know that my parents used cloth diapers sometimes with me when I was a baby, and I am a little bit curious about them. My husband and I are hoping to start a family soon, and I would like to find out a little more about cloth diapers cause it seems like it would be a really good way to save money on diapers. I will definitely have to go back and read some more of the posts here. Thanks for starting this thread! :)

As a babysitter for over 40 years,I have never used disposibles except when the child has been brought to me in them,at the first change, they go into cloth till it is time to be picked up and I will use the one the parents brought, but I do let them know,I disaprove of disposibles for environmental reasons. I have also found disposibles are a drawback to training. Blessed Be.

1. Why do you use cloth? There are a dozen reasons I use cloth. I'm expecting my 4th baby & I don't want to be personally responsible for the destruction of the whole rain forest! I'd rather work less hours & spend more time with my baby, than work more to make Procter & Gamble or Kimberly Clark (diaper makers for those out of the US) rich. New styles of cloth make them as easy as disposables & they're so darn cute :) 2. What is your favorite thing about cloth diapers? Again, they're just so darn cute. 3. What type of system do you use? with my last one I used mostly contoured style but not AIOs. AIOs just didn't seem to fit him right & didn't wash or dry as well as the thinner ones. It seemed I had better results with a thinner diaper & a doubler than I did with thicker cloths. 4. What is your wash routine? With the last one I only used cloth about 50% of the time. I seldom did more than one 'extra' load of wash per week. I prefer to line dry, but if the weather isn't cooperating I'll throw them in the dryer. 5. What is your favorite diaper? hmm- I don't know that any of my faves had specific names. I did a bunch of random wahm made diapers with Peter. 6. Where is your favorite place to shop? I bought quite a few from eBay. This time (baby #4 due in October) I'm making my own to fill out what I have left from my last one.

I switched to cloth because my dd was allergic to sposies. I love how cute they are! I also love how no chemicals are against my childs skin. I love pockets. I used to do a cold rinse, sportwash in hot, rinse in cold. I would also use vinegar and tea tree oil in the rinse cycle. I just love diapers by deb. Deb is on the made by mama web site. I love to shop at made by mama. My dd is potty trained so we currently do not use cloth. Baby #2 is due in June so I am buying cd's like crazy! I am buying alot of prefolds and pockets along with some covers.
