I was out of jelly and I love peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I went to make my jelly and found that I did not have enough apple pie spice made up. So, I had to make some up. I thought you may enjoy the recipe to make your own apple pie spice. I use it for many thing including adding to my instant oat packets. I use it in my apple pie of course and I sprinkle it on the ice cream that I top my apple pie with. What do you use apple pie spice for?
Here is the recipe
Apple Pie Spice:
1/4 cup cinnamon
2 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. allspice
1 tsp. ground ginger
Mix all spices together and put into an airtight container (or spice jar).

well, besides the obvious (pies), I use it for apple crisp, and sometimes add it to my pancake/waffle batter. Right now the house is SOOO dry because of the winter, I like to put a dash or so in a pan of boiling water on the stove top to fill the house with that delicious scent. It smells so yummy!

Ohhh, the house smells so yummy when you have a pan with water and apple pie spice in it. I do that too. Do you make your own spice combinations?

Sometimes. RIght now, I have cinnamon, cocoa powder, and ginger. (wierd, but it does smell like heaven!) Sometimes I add anise seed orange peels or just about anything that smells yummy!

I also add as much cloves as ginger, as that is a flavor I really love. That is such a good blend for so many foods.

I only use it for apple pie, apple cobbler, or baked apples for pancakes.
But I never ran across how to make my own!
Thanks! I will have to write this down on my cards for the kitchen and keep it!
The next time I am out of it, I will be able to make my own and refill the bottle I have! :)
